After 35 years Playgirl magazine's last issue just hit the newsstands and is dated January/February 2009. Get your copy while they last!
The magazine's three women editors, all serious journalists, tried valiantly to keep the magazine alive, injecting serious women's issues along with the magazine's graphic photos of nude men. In the end the magazine was run by a skeleton crew of the three women editors, Nicole Caldwell, Corinne Weiner and Jessanne Collins. Blue Horizon Media the magazine's owner publishes xxx porn magazines.
According to the NY Times article linked below, Playgirl was started as a feminist response to Playboy and Penthouse and published Joyce Carol Oates and other quality writers, but it changed ownership and began catering more to gay men.
