According to researchers at the University of Buffalo and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, postmenopausal women with breast cancer that ate foods which were high in lignansโ€”plant compounds found in seeds, vegetables, fruits and whole grains, were 70% less likely to die from the disease than women that didn't.

โ€œThis study suggests that certain fruits and vegetables may offer more protection than others. Postmenopausal women diagnosed with breast cancer who reported high intakes of lignans, which in this study were supplied mostly by dark bread, peaches, broccoli, oranges, winter squash, strawberries, coffee and tea, had a statistically significant reduction in death rates,โ€ said Dr. Susan McCann.

Lignans also fights off another cancer-enhancing growth factor called "vascular endothelial growth factor." VEGF helps cancer by stimulating new blood vessels to grow. When tumors develop, they need nutrients that can only be delivered by new blood vessels.

There are supplements high in this valuable resource which are available over-the-counter like Brevail. Brevail is made of isolated, purified and concentrated lignans from flax seed. By taking supplements such as these, you are guaranteeing the steadiest and healthiest dose of lignans everyday.

Supplements like Brevail are not recommended for women that are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Women undergoing breast, ovarian, or cervical cancer treatments should consult with their doctor before taking any nutritional supplement.
