Growing Up In Texas

For all the true Texans I'm sure you've heard a few...

For those who have always wondered...

I have never seen a deer cross at the "Deer Crossing" signs.

There are at least 5,000 types of snakes on earth and 4,998 live in Texas.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Texas , plus a few no one's seen before.

'Twiced' is a word.

People really grow and eat okra; sometimes even raw

'Fixinto' is one word.

There is no such thing as 'lunch.' There is only dinner and then supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for any meal and you start drinking it when you're two. We like a little tea with our sugar!

Djeet is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't PUSH buttons, you SMASH them.

You measure distance in hours. Like its 6 hours from Houston to Dallas .

You'll probably have to switch from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day.

'Fix' is a verb. Example: 'I'm fixing to make supper.'

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

Yes, Friday night high school football games is serious football!

You carry jumper cables in your car . . . for your OWN car.

There are only four spices: salt, pepper, Tabasco and ketchup.

100 degrees Fahrenheit is 'a little warm.'

We have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas.

Going to Wal-mart is a favorite past time known as 'goin' to Wally-World.'

A cool snap (below 70 degrees) is good pinto-bean or chili weather.

A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola or pop. . . . it's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor. Example: 'What kind a coke you want?'

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

We don't need no stinking driver's ed . . . if mama says we can drive, we can drive.

If you understand these jokes please pass them to your friends from Texas (and those who just wish they were).

EVERYONE can't be from Texas . You might say it's a gift from God!

And the most important thing we learn growing up in TEXAS is...

IN GOD WE TRUST

Texas a very beautiful state and for the most people have kind hearts. There are always a few exceptions to any place. I was born in Texas, and lived my entire life here. All kidding aside I guess I wouldn't want to live any where other than Texas.

I knew that about lunch - same as in S. Idaho on the farm. Dinner and Supper and always a stack of sliced bread and butter.. and Iced tea..and a lot of sugar!! And "flares" something you give a woman on her birthday 'say it with flares'. This is great! I shall go tell some other Texans about this hub!

Queen I hear that one a lot in the grocery store.

Candie I still get flares for my B-day as we say it.

KCC my hubby was born in CA, raised in ME, and spent most of his adult life in OK however I think his favorite word is "yont-too" he's a TEXAN now.

Oh the memories! I lived in Kilgore, then Mt Pleasant for 9 years. Had my children there and then we all moved back to California. I can attest to the fact that while all these are so funny--most are so true! Football was a big deal- one year the town of Mt. Pleasant actually changed the date for Halloween because it fell on a Friday night...and everyone was at the game...everyone except me and 3 little trick-or-treaters knocking on doors where no one was home. I guess i didn't get the memo LOL. Great hub.
