Things To Do In Nantucket

Advice From A Local
The guidebooks will tell you one thing ... locals will tell you another, Here are some of our favorites:
Restaurants:
-Water Street- if you eat upstairs at the bar (you have to sit at the bar) they have a menu that is 3 items for $35 and it is a steal.. great food and awesome drinks. The regular menu is expensive but good, we go there quite a bit.
-The Languedoc Bistro (downstairs)- they don't take reservations, you have to go there at 6 and they will give you a time to come back.. it is really great food, so worth the hassle. They also have a really good bar menu that you can order off anywhere in the downstairs bistro
-Pi Pizza- good pizza, pasta, and appetizers- of course not as good as NYC but the best new addition to Nantucket is a while... it is really busy and the service is marginal, but we still like going there!
-Kitty Murtaghs- An irish pub, good food, drinks, and inexpensive!
-American Seasons- Good food, romantic especially if you can sit outside... fine dining
-The Summer House- This is out in Sconset (about 7 miles from where we live) and is worth a trip to see the little town and at least have drinks upstairsat the restaurant. It is old Nantucket... expensive but beautiful, they have a piano bar and it gets pretty lively.
-Center Street Bistro- It is small, delicious, and worth going..... I like lunch there.
-Black Eyed Susans- BYOB!!! It is really good, you can't make reservations..another weird one where you have to go down there early and check in but worth it.
- The Rope Walk- Decent food and drinks but right on the dock with a killer view of all of the yachts... ask if you can sit in the back bar, it is really cool.
-Cambridge Street- A bar and restaurant that is a frequent haunt of ours... good food, good drinks, and reasonable. This time of year there will be lots of sailors but the locals always go there.
-The Downey Flake- The only true diner on the island... good breakfast, it is cheap but be prepared to wait.. lots of people love the doughnuts.
Bars:
- It is the late night (for Nantucket! bars close at 1:00 am) place.. live music and it gets pretty crazy by Island standards.
-The Rose and Crown- CRAZY!!! late at night.... a pretty young crowd but somewhere to go and dance.
-The Lobster Trap- I don't suggest eating here (fake butter) but a good place to throw down some cocktails
-The Straight Warf- This place is funny.. super preppy Boston crowd.. we like to go there and laugh at people in their pink polo shirts and blue blazers!
There are a few more.... you will see.
Take Out:
-Sayles Seafood- Fried seafood, chowder, etc. pretty good.
-Cooks Cafe- good wraps and salads
-Provisions- good sandwiches
-Something Natural- good sandwiches, DEFINITELY go here... a Nantucket tradition and really good chocolate chip cookies! You can eat outside at a picnic table.. quite nice.
-Daily Breads- Best bread on the island, really good baked treats and light salads.
-The Bean- Best coffee on the island
