Things to concider when your child goes to summer camp.
56The big day is approaching. Your child is finally old enough to go to summer camp. They are nervous or excited. You are nervous or frantic. They don't care what they're taking. You make all the preparations. While you are glad they're going to have this opportunity to be outside and you look forward to the break from their summer boredom you wonder if you have gotten together all the things they are going to need. Here are a few things to consider.
Your child is going to be out of doors. That means sunlight. If they do not have sunscreen lotion on that also means sunburns. Even if you put sunscreen on them before they leave they may go swimming and it will all wash off. Have aloe ready.
Your child is not going to watch all of their possessions the entire time. Things get lost or stolen. Put your child's name on everything from their waterbottle and backpack to their underwear and socks. Even still, be prepared for things to go missing. Things break and kids lose things, especially when they are busy having fun.
There are bugs. Insect repellent will come in handy for your child. If your child is allergic to such things as bee stings be sure to have the proper medical supplies for them to use at their disposal and make sure they and the camp coucilors know how to use it.
Accidents happen. Do not be too shocked or overly distraught if the accident happens to your child. This will put undo stress on them at a time when they need your strength and support. Keep yourself together and do what needs to be done. After they go to sleep that night then you can go ahead and fall apart if you need to.
Aside from all the concerns you may have be prepared for your child to have fun. They'll run around in the fresh air. They'll do crafts that they'll brag to you about. They'll see critters they don't normally see at home. They'll make new friends. And they'll make fond memories that will last their entire lives.
