Things to do During Interview
- Dress and look smart irrespective of the organization’s dress culture.
2. Ensure that you get to the venue of the interview some minutes before the commencement. You can acquaint yourself of the venue of the interview before the scheduled date.
3. Acquaint yourself with the company’s products, services and customers.
4. Attend the venue with extra copy of your Curriculum Vitae and complete materials – paper, biro, pencil, ruler, eraser, etc.
5. Speak confidently with the interviewers. Demonstrate confidence with eye constant contact.
6. Do not offer yourself a sit unless you are told to do so. Don’t refuse a handshake anyway.
7. Listen attentively and interpret the unsaid words. Some unsaid words could be as important as the said ones.
8. Do not answer questions by asking the interviewers questions in return. This “smartness” is irritating and could endanger the possibility of moving ahead with the interview. Rather, seek for clarification of a question, if in doubt.
9. Ask the interviewers relevant and useful questions during the interview. The type of questions you ask will indicate your interest for the job and the company. Ask questions about the kind of work, job requirement of the new/prospective work including financial and growth opportunities.
10. Do not run down your former employer during interview because it would be assumed that you would do the same if employed.
11. Do not tell lies about your present and previous salaries because these could be easily confirmed.
12. Do not tell lies about your present and previous job experience.
13. Do not apply or accept a responsibility you cannot handle just because of the financial and other benefits. You may not be able to sustain the job when the heath is on.
14. Do not cheat yourself during interviews by accepting a job you do not like just to find a way of getting into the organization and request for re-grading or transfer later; which may work against you.
15. Maintain a positive attitude throughout the interview. Remember, it is an opportunity to market yourself. However, do not pretend to be a saint.
