Just about two hours west of Sydney you'll find the fascinating Blue Mountains. It has been a holiday destinations for Sydney-dwellers since the 1800s. The Blue Mountain is on the World Heritage list, the mountain's name refers to the blue haze caused by droplets of eucalyptus oil exuded into the air by forests of gum trees. It is good to visit the mountain on a day trip or a weekend gateaway, because it is a vast area to explore.

You can find the Blue Mountains in the town of Katoomba, it is renowned for its charming guest houses, bed and breakfast, excellent restaurants and many art galleries of the work of local artists. There are many beautiful gardens in Leura and Mount Wilson. The altitude brings beautiful blooms in spring and magnificent yellow and red during the autumn months.

There are also other activities aside from sightseeing, bushwalking, you can go abseiling, rock climbing or hiking.

The Three Sisters

There are many famous attractions at the Blue Mountains, the main features is the Three Sisters, they are pillars of eroded sandstone overlooking the Jamison Valley and are best seen at the lookout at Echo Point.

Visitors can also enjoy the Scenic Skyway which conducts visitors high over the valley. Skyway is a high-tech cable car with the world's first electro-scenic glass floor and the biggest thrill is at the flick of a switch it allows breaktaking views through the cabin floor to the valley which 270 metres far below. A sensational view!

Mount Tomah Botanic Garden

A huge collection of native and exotic plants. It was opened to the public in 1987, it has over 5000 species of plants from the cooler parts of the world. Many of these have been collected by staff of the Royal Botanic Gardens in the wild and have not previously been grown in Australia.

Being 1000 metres above sea level and having rich volcanic soil and a cool climate make the site ideal for one of the world's finest collections of cool-climate plants.

Jenolan Caves

These are some of the world's finest limestone caves which include underground rivers and hundreds of striking rock formations. Since their discovery by Europeans in 1838 the caves has been progressively opened up and now the most awesome inspiring attraction in the Blue Mountains.
