What is liposuction?
Liposuction
or Lipoplasty is a cosmetic surgery operation removing fat from one's body
using a vacuum-suction canula pump. People that want to lose excess fat
typically get liposuction surgery.
Liposuction is not an alternative to dieting and exercising. Its purpose is to
remove unwanted body fat from a particular area of the body. Areas the must
targeted are the belly, hips, thighs and buttocks.
Anesthesia
is commonly used during liposuction. The liposuction patient will be groggy and
haggard once they awaken from the anesthesia. It's a great idea for the
liposuction patient to have a ride home after the surgery is complete. The
liposuction patient will be impaired, that they will endanger themselves and
others on the road.
After the liposuction procedure is complete, swelling and/or pain will be
minimal. Discomfort after the liposuction is expected. Try not to do any
strenuous activities when the surgery is over. No lifting of any kind,
especially heavy lifting. No strenuous exercise unless your surgeon has given
you permission. Liposuction patients are required to wear a compression girdle
a few weeks after the surgery, to help you overcome any discomfort or swelling.
Liposuction patients have to be aware that it does leave scars that are
permanent. Incisions are being made during the surgery which causes the
scarring to occur. The surgeon or dermatologist will prescribe you antibiotics
to prevent infections. Infections are very severe and it's one of the major
risks of liposuction. Liposuction patients must follow every post-operative
guidelines and instructions that the surgeon has provided. When you suspect an
infection, immediately notify your surgeon.
Liposuction has other risks and side effects. Burning from an ultrasound
probing device, and organ damage. All the risks that are involved in
liposuction surgery have to be researched. You have to be advised of what could
happen in certain circumstances. Research dermatologists and surgeons and
liposuction operating facilities. Asking for references to specific facilities
or surgeons is always a great idea.
Liposuction is usually performed on the abdomens and thighs of women. Flanks
and abdomens of men. Liposuction has remained one of the most popular forms of
plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery in the United States. Liposuction is a
quick and effective way of losing excessive body fat. Having a great diet and
maintaining your ideal weight will ensure a successful life after liposuction
surgery.
Liposuction
has been proven to slim down one's figure. A strict diet has to be maintained
in order to keep the weight off from the surgery. The weight will appear again
and you will be back to square one. Liposuction patients find it difficult to
follow a diet, and they are left with the same self confidences problems before
they had the surgery. Liposuction patients tend to think the surgery is
magically going to make their fat disappear and never return. That is false.
Liposuction is a safe surgical procedure. It is performed by a licensed
dermatologist or a plastic surgeon. If you only want a small area to be
liposuctioned, the procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours. The liposuction
patient can go home if the surgeon says it's okay to do so. If you want a
larger area or multiple areas to be liposuctioned, you will have to stay
overnight at the hospital. The surgeon will recommend this for your protection.
