I read where the movie hound dog in 2007 was banned in many theaters and even in parts of the nation. I couldn’t help but wonder why, so I decided to find out. I found out this debate is closely related to a debate that has been going on for thirty years. I’m talking the debate as to whether or not the movie pretty baby is child pornography. So I think we should start there. The reason the pretty baby debate has gone on for so long is because most people only ask half of the question. When you ask half a question you get half the truth, and half the truth is a bold faced lie.  Instead of asking is pretty baby child pornography?, lets ask is and was pretty baby child pornography?  You will find the answer is yes it is, no it wasn’t. Here’s why I say that.
I went to see pretty baby in 1978, I was twenty seven at the time. The theater was packed that day in Kansas City Missouri. The movie took the audience from disgust to anger and then finally to pure hate. Our disgust had nothing to do with the naked child, it was caused by the way the society was allowing the child to be raised in 1917. What you have to understand is that the advertising industry, the entertainment industry, and some aspects of the media had not began flaunting children as sex objects. So they weren’t being viewed as sex objects. Anger was brought on by the selling of a twelve year old girls virginity, to say the least we weren’t very fond of the girls mother for selling her daughters virginity or of the man that bought it. Hate came when the artist bought the girl a doll. She thanked him and asked why he bought it for her. He replied “because every little girl should have one”. She was angry because he thought of her as a child. However the very next scene showed her playing with it, This drove home the point that all of this was happening to a child. That doll should go down in history as the most effective use of a movie prop EVER. They say pretty baby is loosely based on a true story, that is half a truth (bald faced lie) that hides the whole truth. The truth that our society keeps hidden behind a naked child. Pretty Baby is based on millions of true stories throughout history and today in every nation.
That brings us to the movie hound dog. There is no naked child to hide the truth behind in this movie. So what do we do?, if we call it child porn and ridicule it , we can hide it behind false virtues. The movie Hound dog is based on millions of true stories throughout history and today in every nation. So lets not watch it. If we don’t see it, it don’t exist. That is just plain stupid! If we can’t or won’t see it how in the name of decency are  we going to stop it?
