Thomas Edison Was A Cement Manufacturing Revolutionist
73What The History Books Missed About Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison apparently after developing several of the electrical devices we use today, such as lights, motor, electrical distribution system, started investing in manufacturing which implemented his inventions. The text books give him credits on his electrical inventions, but they do not mention much on is other inventions.
He actually invented, along with his electrical motors, and electrical distribution system, many mechanically system used in several industries, especially in quarrying and ore handling. Also, major advancement in cement manufacturing.
Thomas Edison started investing and creating a electical magnetic separator to remove iron ore for processing from low grade iron ore quarried material. This looked promising, but was closed down after high grade ore deposited were found elsewhere, which could be processed at a lower cost.
After this, Thomas started looking at the cement industry. He was interested in the industry not only for the manufacturing opportunities, but as well for the promise of improving human life from the advancemenet of cement manufacturing. He invisioned the dirt and stone roads to be replaced with concrete roads. Also, he invisioned cement being used in building structures.
At this time, the manufacturing of cement was a slow and limited in quantity. Most cement kilns were vertical kilns which could only produce a ton or two of cement every day or two. Cement was limited supply.

Thomas Edison started using his electrical knowledge and cement manufacturing knowledge to start improving the cities in the east. The cities started installing electrical distribution and electrical apparatus to provide lighting, heating, other electrical amendities that we enjoy.
With these improvement, the streets started being paved with concrete to better lifes of the people. Concrete started being used in construction and buildings.
The previous electrical inventions provided energy and mechanical movers to run his cement equipment, which greatly helped increase the volume of production.
Thomas Edison was one of great people of our times. His inventions improved the lifes of billions. He holds a large number patents and has inventory an extra-ordinary amount of inventions. He invested into the country and used his inventions to improve the world.

Jiberish,
Yes, the history books missed a lot. In the future he will probably known as one of the evil guys behing all of the CO2 emissions, the way they are changing the history books
Keep on Hubbing!
This is great information about Thomas Edison.neatly edited nicely arranged.
I had heard when I was just a kid that the cement for Yankee Stadium was made in Edison's cement manufacturing plant. I believe a lot of the information about Edison's non-electrical work is chronicled at Rutgers University.
Thank you for an interesting and informative Hub.
Very interesting. I had no idea. Thanks for the informative hub.
Eovery, very illuminating. I didn't know any of this cement and mining stuff - and me a grandson of miners. Don White
Thanks for hubbing by guy.
Keep on hubbing!
Great Hub, eovery - I enjoyed that little trip through history. It is always good to learn something new :)
