When ads take a wrong turn

For the most part the ad capsules do a good job of putting appropriate ads on the pages, but every now and then the results can be funny. Take for example my hub on Traditional archery. I couldn't figure out why ads for tea and oatmeal kept showing up. Granted archers do get thirsty and hungry, but what's up with that? See for yourself: http://hubpages.com/hub/Traditional_Archery

Then it dawned on me that it was the word 'Traditional' in the post.

My belly dancing hub has an ad for "Big Beautiful Serving Cart."

My juggling hub has an ad for Bean Bag Chairs. Try to visualize someone juggling 3 bean bag chairs. Feel free to share your strange ad experiences in the comment section below.

Sometimes the tag system backfires completely. One of the blogs I went to once was about people that either didn't want any children or couldn't have any children. Their site got plastered with all the baby merchandise ads.

Don't forget to add the tags to your hubs. Add the most obvious tags you can think of. Then add four or five more obscure tags. I think the obscure ones will get picked up by the search engines faster; at least that has been my experience so far. Also add variations of the same words like poetry, poet, poem, verse, rhymes, etc. Sometimes it even helps to add the commonly mispelled tags. If people are always mispelling your webpage name, put the mispelled version in your tags too.

The google contextual advertising engine is pretty good. I think they’re maybe mixing in a behavior element as well. Since so many sites serve google ads, I've noticed that I'll occasionally see ads that relate to content from another site I recently visited. Although it might just be coincidence. Today I saw San Luis Obispo Hotel ads on an SEO article..

I enjoyed your post. It was a wonderful accompaniment to my breakfast. I have a few ads posted on my blog which don't really relate to the content of the blog. I realized my error after reading your post. Thanks for the morning's chuckle and for helping me to make a correction.
