Thoughts on the Brett Favre Saga

Chances are if you watch the NFL, you can't help but hear another Brett Favre story about his never-ending saga of either playing or not playing. By now, this is a story that you want to throw up because of being sick and tired of hearing about it over and over again. For the past three seasons, we have heard this go on and basically stringing people along and that's not cool. Last season, he had perhaps the best year Favre could have had for years only to come up short to eventual Super Bowl winning New York Giants. The saga had gone on and we heard Favre retire claiming he couldn't get himself to be ready Monday through Saturday before game time and now all of a sudden he can? Somebody explain that one, as it makes no sense at all.

He has the record for most consecutive starts at 253 and had been basically the Cal Ripken Jr. of football. Injuries couldn't stop this team nor could personal problems within his family could. He is the all-time leader in total yards passed and has one Super Bowl ring in two appearances. There is no doubt about his playing ability and that he will go into the NFL Hall of Fame when the time comes for his induction. While he isn't the greatest in the world, he is the most durable and reliable player that you could ever find.

What is the problem here is that Favre is playing the Packers for fools with his wishy-washy style of trying to figure out if he is going to play or not. He's not getting any younger and it would be step away before being forced out by concussions or any other major injury. He had a great year but there is no guarantee it can happen again and it doesn't matter what kind of Quarterback you are. Brett Favre has honestly made himself look bad by doing this. If he wanted to play, he shouldn't have said he was going to retire in the first place. Maybe it's just me but you just don't go saying you're retired and then come back instantly showing that you had no intentions of really retiring. Doesn't that make him look like a liar? It sure does and what's going to happen if he really does retire? Will anyone believe him at all? Most likely no because of what he has done to the Green Bay Packers.

I don't think it matters if he plays or doesn't for the Packers because this team isn't going to go to the Super Bowl this year. The competition will be tough as you have for example the defending Super Bowl Champion Giants and the Dallas Cowboys for example as threats to that spot. The NFC North is going to be a division where it is up for grabs anyway. The front-runners to be honest will probably be the Packers and the Vikings. The Bears and Lions aren't expected to do much even if somehow Favre got traded to either team.

My last thought is that if you heard on ESPNEWS or maybe saw it online at ESPN.com, he's not going to get released from the Packers and is welcome to come back but as a back up to Aaron Rogers. He won't accept it and may consider staying in retirement and moving on with his life. It's obvious that the Green Bay Packers are moving on to life without Favre. Now it's time for Brett to do the same thing and just move on with his life and wait until he is inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He has had a great career, now personally he should retire with grace and dignity instead of coming back and potentially being looked upon as an over-the-hill Quarterback that doesn't get the message that he should retire. Let us hope this circus ends because quite honestly it needs to and we need to focus on the upcoming season in the NFL.
