Three Reasons You Should Never Starve Yourself On A Diet

One mistake that far too many people make when on a fat loss diet is starving themselves while on their diet.

They think that by consuming fewer calories, they will speed the fat loss process and get the results they are looking for.

But, this often backfires and then they're left wondering what went wrong.

Starving yourself on a fat loss diet is a big mistake, and here's why.

Metabolism Slow-Down

The first reason why starving yourself on a diet is a very bad plan is because it's going to dramatically slow your metabolism.

True, you need to consume fewer calories than your body burns in order to get results from your fat loss plan, but take these calories too low and the body will respond by slowing down to conserve energy.

You should never go any lower than your body weight times ten in terms of total calorie intake.

If you have to go lower than this, it'd be smarter to increase your daily activity to help increase the amount of calorie deficit you're experiencing.

Loss of Lean Muscle Mass

The second reason why starving yourself on a diet is a very bad idea is because of the loss in lean muscle mass that you'll experience.

Your muscle mass is like your little calorie burning engine.

The more muscle mass you have, the faster your metabolic rate will be. That's one reason why males seem to be able to eat so many more calories each day than females - they've got more muscle mass tissue.

So, when you start starving yourself and losing this muscle mass tissue, you're asking for trouble.

Combining enough calories with a proper weight training program is going to be your ticket for maintaining muscle mass.

Obsession With Food

The third reason why you should never starve yourself while on a diet is because it will cause you to begin to obsess about food.

Think you're already thinking a lot about food? Wait until you go on a super strict diet. It will intensify.

The big issue here is that once you start this obsessing, you're going to eat everything and anything to try and overcompensate for not eating what you truly wanted.

When you starve yourself, these cravings get out of control and you won't be able to fight them for long.

Soon or later you will give in and then you'll be eating much more than you would have if you would have just been less strict in the first place.

So, allow yourself some freedom to eat some of the foods you enjoy.

It will pay off in the end. Plus, by having foods that are higher in calories once in a while, you will actually bump the metabolism up even more, enhancing the results you see from your weight loss program.

So, be sure you keep these three points in mind. Don't starve yourself on your fat loss diet if you want to get maximum results. There is simply better ways to accomplish your goal of weight loss.
