Three Types of Diabetes
53Three Types of Diabetes
A lot of people are not very well informed when it comes to diabetes, most think there is only one form of diabetes. The truth is there are three types and each one has it's own share or symptoms and treatments. It is important to know which form of diabetes you might have or which type of diabetes your family members of friends have because there is a big difference between the three.
As you probably already know, diabetes is mostly about how your body uses insulin to change the sugar you consume into useable energy for your body's cells. Each type of diabetes presents different problems associated with how your body uses the insulin.
Type I Diabetes is Very Serious
Type I diabetes can simply be describe as your body attacking itself.People who have type 1 are known as insulin-dependent. This is what's called an autoimmune disease where your body’s natural system is fighting against another part of your body. So in other words, your system attacks your insulin producing cells and destroys them.
This is very serious and often leaves your body without enough insulin producing cells to handle the amount of sugar your are regularly consuming. It's even possible that no insulin is produced at all. Type I diabetes is often found in children and young adults and requires daily injections of insulin just to stay alive and survive. It is usually diagnosed early since it creates life threatening situations where immediate medical care is needed.
Type II Diabetes is Preventable
Type II diabetes will usually be developed later in your life. It is a slow forming disease that may not have noticeable symptoms for a long time. The sugar in your body is not being properly processed leaving large amounts of sugar into the bloodstream for long periods of time.
The majority of people who have type II diabetes are overweight. So for those people who are overweight, losing the extra weight is absolutely necessary in order to avoid type II diabetes.
So losing your extra weight is one of the most significant steps that can be taken in preventing diabetes. The extra pounds can lead to what is called metabolic syndrome which means that the fat around your waist will actually help create a natural insulin resistance. By not doing anything about all the extra weight it's almost a guaranteed that developing diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure will happen as you grow older. Losing weight is the one thing that you can do to avoid diabetes and other life threatening diseases.
The Third Type of Diabetes is Called Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes happens to pregnant woman. The symptoms can suddenly appear or they may not be noticeable at all. Gestational diabetes can remain during your pregnancy and then go away afterwards.
Your doctor will need to help you maintain your sugar levels as well as make sure your unborn child is not having problems with sugar as well.Diabetes during a pregnancy can also mean that it will occur later in life sometimes within the next ten years of so.
