About Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme essential oil is extracted through a process of steam distillation of the thyme flowers and leaves.  Thyme essential oil is powerful and is distilled twice to remove some of the more irritant properties. Thyme essential oil blends well with Cedarwood, citrus oils and Lavender. When blended with Peppermint, Tea Tree , Eucalyptus and Lavender Oils it makes a fantastic Breathe Easy  Blend. The Thyme Oil helps bring out the mucus and flem. This is a great product to have lying around in your medical cabinet for when  weather changes occur and coughs and colds set in.

Thyme essential oil also has antiseptic, reviving, fortifying and emotionally uplifting, cleansing and purifying properties.  The most common thyme oil for aromatherapy use is sweet (common) thyme essential oil; red thyme essential oil is more aggressive in its chemical make-up.

Red Thyme essential oil is anti-bacterial, anti-infectious, anti-fungal, a mental stimulant, antiseptic, expectorant and mucolytic; in aromatherapy, it is used to treat sinusitis, influenza, tonsillitis, rheumatism, asthma, sciatica, depression, stress, acne and wounds.  Red thyme essential oil has strong antiseptic properties but has a number of cautions for its use.

Aromatic Scent: White Thyme essential oil has a spicy, warm, herbaceous scent.  Aromatic Scent: Red Thyme has a fresh, herbaceous, medicinal scent.

Essential Oils Are..

Essential oils are derived from plants through a process known as distillation; this can be both water and steam distillation.  Essential oils not only affect the physical but also the mental and emotional aspects of our lives.  Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts, therefore having very potent therapeutic values.  Although essential oils normally blend well together, Thyme oil blends particularly well with Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Peppermint and Pine.
