You can use the TiVo HD XL with a standard TV. It will record TV shows in HD, but display them in standard definition on your TV.

 

Video support is up to 1080i over HDMI or component. The Tivo HD is capable of recording two shows at once, and also can download movies from the internet via it's ethernet connection. Video inputs the two CableCard slots, and coax inputs for cable and antenna. The TiVo HD XL box offers more recording capacity than any other DVR available, be it satellite or cable.
