Louis Comfort Tiffany was a recognized artist who was born in 1848 and died 85 years later in 1933. He became famous very quickly and his special lamps made him one of the best craftsmen and artists that America has ever had. His father was the father of Tiffany and Company. I think we all know that this company is one of the most famous jewelry around the world. Nevertheless Louis left aside the world of precious stones and stepped into world of the interior design building here a strong name for himself.

A Unique Collaboration

Louis was a friend of Thomas Edison and together they became the inventors of light fixtures.
In time, the artist has developed a special technique for working the glass and today all his shadows, textures and colors have become famous. In two decades he has patented four new types of glass and became the enshrined and recognized master of the lamps. Tiffany products, without exception, were created either by artist or if not, by the artists working under his direct guidance. collaboration

The Unique Characteristics

A specific detail of Tiffany lamps is that their base is 100% of bronze. Every shade and base have unique registration numbers and their range is so wide that it can hardly can be described in words. The first Tiffany lamps were called "Favrile" (handcrafted) and were in fact his first models. These objects are proudly wearing the “LCT” or “Favrile” signature on the base.

An Eclectic Collection Of Styles

Tiffany’s entire collection includes all kinds of lighting from wall sconces to floor lamps. Some categories are downright fabulous and should be mentioned here. For example the geometric style of shades has squares, circles and triangles drawn on glass and the shades are absolutely spectacular.

Lamps that are part of the floral collection combine the geometric shapes with peacock feathers, wines, flowers, leaves and even spider web. The edge of the openings was changed in order to make the lamp look like a shrub while the branches are rigorously following the shades. This is considered to be the most expensive object in the entire Tiffany collection.

Identifying The Originals

Bamboo, Greek Urn, Apple Blossom, Acorn are all original Tiffany designs so if you’re shopping for one you should pay attention to the signature on the base. His lamps are simply wonderful and their originality is fabulous. In shops all over US you can find replicas of Tiffany lamps but the base is made either of wood or of another metal. People should remember that Tiffany's lamps are one of a kind and this is something that cannot be copied too soon.
