Timbuk2 Classic Messenger

The Timbuk2 Classic Messenger bag has quickly become the most popular and sought-after way for today's big city dweller, mover and shaker to carry all of their stuff safely and stylishly from point A to point B. The beginning of the messenger bag trend first began when the infamously dangerous groups of bike messengers not only needed a way to carry their stuff while delivering to places all over the city, but also deliver them in something that was cool and made a statement just as loud as the crazy profession that they had chosen.

In 1989 a bike messenger named Rob Honeycutt not only noticed this need for a new type of messenger bag, but he decided to do something about it and began sewing a new type of bag in his basement and selling them through local bike shops in San Francisco, CA. This small-time operation has now turned into Timbuk2, which is the hottest thing to hit the city since sourdough bread and the Classic Messenger bag is still as dependable, stylish and useful as it was when Rob began putting them together over 15 years ago.

Many Sizes, Patterns and Colors to Choose From

With the Classic Messenger bag being the most popular offering from Timbuk2, there are many sizes shapes and patterns that you can choose from when you're selecting which one to call your own. Depending on the elements that it will be subjected to, the types of surroundings you'll be traveling in and how environmentally friendly you are you can choose from a wide selection of bags that are all within the Classic Messenger product line.

With most of the models you can choose a size that fits what you need by selecting anything form x-small to x-large and with everything in between. As the size goes up, so does the price, but whether you need to carry just a few things or your entire desk there is definitely a Classic Messenger bag that will work just right for you.

Ballistic Standard Color Options

Ballistic Fabric

The most common style of the Classic Messenger bag is the 3-panel design with Ballistic Fabric, which is made up of rugged nylon and is a great all around option for anyone who is looking for something that will last. Also, the Ballistic Fabric has the largest selection of color options, so it's very easy to find one that you can fall in love with.

The Ballistic Fabric bags range in price from $85 to $105 depending on what size you need to carry all of the things that you plan on stuffing inside of it. If you're looking to get a bag that is comfortable, stylish, roomy and not too expensive then the Classic Messenger is definitely the Timbuk2 bag for you.

Grip Fabric

The Grip Gabric style is the first and only 4-panel Classic Messenger bag and is also the only version specifically designed with a more feminine side. But just because this bag has more of a female fashion sense, don't think for a minute that it's any less durable than any of the other options, it just happens to have a prettier cover.

Covert Reflective Color Options

Covert Reflective

They call this style of bag Covert Reflective because the black fabric that covers it appears normal until at night when it turns into a super-reflective safety option for any person riding their bike. Just like with any bag with reflective material, this will help you stay safe once the sun goes down. But, with our covert material, we still manage to make you look a lot better during day as well.

Also, be sure to check out the video below that shows the covert bag in action as the person rides their bike at night. Like they always say - it's better to be safe than sorry.

Covert Reflective Bag In Action

Condura Fabric

The Condura Fabric style is built with a softer nylon material, which gives it a more matte finsh. This type of bag is often preferred by the more 'old-school' bike messengers who want to keep it real and who don't want to feel like their bag is getting too pretty/fancy. Also, this style seems to also be favored much more by the oudoors crowd as opposed to the urbanites.

Herringbone Fabric

Not everyone gets to wear ripped jeans and a t-shirt to work, so there was a need for the 'suit and tie' version of the bag - the Herringbone Fabric. With a more subtle and grown-up image, this bag will definitely not be the reason for you getting called into your bosses office. Well, unless he wants one and needs to ask where you bought it from.

Cross Fabric

The Cross Fabric is another dressed up version of the bag for those who want to carry something that gives them a more professional and sophisticated look. With a shiny blue and silver cover, this bag is definitely a step up the fashion ladder, all while still being as durable as every other bag you can buy.

Faded Indigo Fabric

Even though Faded Indigo Fabric sounds like something that should be made into a jean jacket, this bag actually has a more fun and knobby to it. Also, with a pattern this funky it wasn't a good idea so split it up, so this bag goes with a single panel design.

Night Bird Fabric

With more circles than a Cheerios box, the Night Bird Fabric style of bag is just as tasty, but promises to never get soggy in milk. With a single panel design, wacky design and a super-bright orange logo, this bag will definitely scream that you have some serious style.

Matrix Fabric

Yes, Neo inded was the one and with this Matrix Fabric bag it looks you can be, too. With reflective yarn sewn throughout the material in this bag and with it's brown/red contrast, it's probably so cool that one you buy it you won't mind taking the blue pill and keeping things just the way they are.

Hemp/PET Fabric

If you're a treehugger and you want to carry around a sweet-looking bag, then the Hemp/PET Fabric is the greenest bag of them all. With 67% of it's material coming hemp fibers and 33% coming from recycled plastic bottles your conscience can rest easy all while you look good rockin' this back to wherever you need to go.

Howies Fabric

Timbuk2 has created some really great partnerships with other creative businesses that end up with some really cool bags being produced. An example of one of these partnerships is with Howies, a UK-based action clothing company. The result of this creative connection are the Howies Fabric bags that you see to your right that are not only stylish, but with organic cotton and water-based dyes, are also eco-friendly.

Artist Heglund Fabric

For this bag Timbuk2 teamed up with the uber-popular and t-shirt making community over at threadless.com. One of the Threadless artists, Julia Sonmi Heglund, created the design that is seen on the cover of the Artist Gelund Fabric style of bag that you see to your right. When you get one creative group working with another creative group, it's only right that whatever is produced in the end is really amazing - just like this bag.

Taxi Fabric

The Taxi Fabric bag gets it's name from the checkered black and gray pattern that covers this 3-panel design. While it's not the most flashy choice when buying a bag, it's just wild enough to where you get noticed, but still chill enough to wear with your sport jacket. Also, the middle panel is reflective, so it's ready for some serious night riding.

Wool Fabric Color Options

These wool designs definitely aren't the most flashy, but it's also never bad to have a little extra splash of class in your arsenal. Oh, and Timbuk2 says that these bags are a much easier upgrade to your lifestyle without having to move to a nicer apartment.

Now That's a great hub. Reminds me of the consumer features I enjoyed doing "back in the day." Thanks for showing us how it's done. Is there any way we can find out how much you make for all that? Good work!

Wow, first off I had never heard of such a bag, and second, I apparently had no idea that one bag could have so many different styles! I have a lot to learn about bags apparently. This is the picture perfect hub, great job!
