I clearly saw one reason why on a sunny week-day morning as my train rocked along through National Parks and beside popular ocean beaches. In sheltered coves hundreds of boats lay idle, tethered to their moorings. But not one was out sailing!

Where Were All the Boat Owners?

Many would have commuted to the city where 'the boss' decides

• hours they will work,
• holidays they accrue,
• Income they'll receive.

My educated guess is that they are trading time for dollars! They are tethered with no time freedom to sail free.

As long as they have the time to trade dollars and while the dollars are there to trade time with, then all may be well. However things aren't the same today as five or ten years ago, let alone two!

The security of company loyalty is rare. Those in management are under pressure because with downsizing and company mergers it's chillingly evident to them that the higher you rise, the closer you are to the door!
