Time management is not a dirty word that means keeping busy all day. If anything, time management will increase the amount of your leisure time since the working part of your day will be very productive. Time management and success are married because we need one to have the other.

The most important part of success is choosing your goals. The goals can be professional, educational, wealth building, self improvement, travel, or whatever it is that you want to do. You have to know where you want to go and what you want to accomplish in life before the train can pull out of the station. So start now by either getting a notebook or opening a word program on the computer and make a list of everything that you want to do. Your list might have 30 or 40 items and that's great. After the list is complete, put a completion date beside each goal.

The next step in both time management and success is to prioritize the goals. Now give each goal its own page and break it down into manageable steps. Put a completion date beside each step. This will become the blueprint for your life. People who plan out their lives and accomplish each goal in a timely manner will have a much greater chance of success than people who simply let life happen.

This is another area where time management and success are married. Now that you know what you want to do and how to get there (the steps which you wrote out), it is time to set aside time each day to work toward your goals. Look at the completion date for the different steps and decide what has to be done by the end of one week, one month, six months, etc. and write this information on a day calendar (the kind that has one day on each page). Every day when you look at your calendar you will know exactly what has to be done.

Time management does not mean scheduling something to do every minute of the day. Time management is a way to make the working hours much more productive than for someone who does not plan his time well.

One problem that some people have which prevents their success is their reluctance to complete unpleasant chores or assignments. Procrastination will ruin the best of intentions. Develop the character to complete everything that needs to be done and get it over with. Then you can continue on your journey and, like time management, you can be married to success.
