Get Control of Life - Add Hours to Your Day

Time is a precious commodity, especially when you have to balance taking care of your kids, your home, your partner, and your work. When you have lots of responsibilities to juggle, time becomes just about the most valuable resource you have. Problem is, are you using it efficiently? Time is one of the most undervalued resources; the vast majority of people, including moms, do not recognize its importance. This is one of the reasons that moms all over the world are going to bed exhausted, frustrate, and overwhelmed by all the things they have to do.

Why are moms so exhausted and unable to get a handle on their time: reasons for this are simple and straight forward. Most moms do not know how to manage their time wisely. They aren’t alone. Most people don’t know how to manage their time. We don’t learn good time management techniques when we’re kids. In fact, most of us go through our childhood overhwelemed by everything we have to do. We get homework assignments, chores. We’re always told we have to do what we’re told and, worst of all, we’re never encouraged to delegate.

Delegation, prioritization, and compartmentalization. These are they three key concepts you need to learn (and teach your kids) if you want to get a handle on time management and go from being an overwhelmed mom to a happy, busy, but totally efficient mom.

First of all, to help your family get some quality time and avoid stress (there are few things more stressful for school-age kids than forgetting their homework!), try to establish a system for assigning chores around the house and also help your kids establish their own daily to-do lists. Help your kids to understand the importance of planning. Even if they are young, they can learn to follow a schedule and appreciate that everything has a place.

Getting your kids onto a schedule and managing your own schedule are not easy things to do. Both tasks require patience but the benefits outweigh the hardships.

With a schedule, you and your kids can appreciate that there is a time for everything, a time for going to school and work, a time to do school assignments and chores. Best of all, you can also have a definite a time to relax. Learning to respect schedules, prioritize your jobs, and delegate when possible, you will not only manage your life and help your children to manage theirs.

Time management can be used as an tool to promote success not only as a busy mom, but also as a career woman and a woman! If you can manage your time, you can make sure that the various parts of your life receive appropriate and regular attention. You can achieve more at work when you compartmentalize because you can better focus your energy to be productive. You can also enjoy a better quality relationship with your partner by creating time every day during which you can give 100% of your attention to them (no cell phones, computers, annoying chores) without worrying that you haven’t done something or should be doing something. You’ll enjoy a better quality of relationship and it will pay off long-term.

Great article Marilyn, Not just for Mums either many folk never even consider to try and manage their own time. I recently attended a seminar and the key note speaker discussed the difference between busy and constructive. His argument came down to time management as well.

Your fan Mon.

This is great advice. I have been using this technique and although I tend to fall off the wagon every now and then, during the school year we follow a schedule which allows me time to relax as I talk about in my http://earlymorningpeace.blogspot.com/

It's my time so sleep in kids!! Thanks for the article, I quoted you in my fitness blog.
