Time to Pay Your Tab

In the great big game of life

You broke the vows and cheated on your wife

divorce papers filed a few years back

time to pay your tab

Too late to go back

What you are trying to pull

is dishonorable and cold

As assets diminish, the stories so old

Even men who have their cake

and eat it too

are a notch above someone like you

Attorneys discuss what estranged couples cannot

You've got the best of all worlds

and your hand still in the pot

The grass wasn't greener

There was no fly in your soup

The waiter will say he doesn't believe you

How low can you stoop?

another round of legal battles

more heartache to get through

good faith is just words

to someone like you

You've been sitting at the table

for far too long

Time to pay your tab

so we all can move on

Friends and families shouldn't become

casualties of divorce

When love goes away

and life takes a different course

Children should not have to suffer

but be permitted to grow

How many years have they witnessed

this cold bitter show?

You can't stay in a hotel

if you decided to camp

Can't recapture yesterday

or send a letter without a stamp

the fees pile high

the stress takes it's toll

It's War of the Roses

and you have no soul

So bring it on Mister

once and for all

United we no long stand

We've been divided

and the chips, they must fall.

So smoke them if you got them

no more feathers for your cap

It's time to settle your balance

there's nothing else to tap

Move over Big guy

There's nothing left to claim

but you've made your bed

and you should be ashamed.

Way over yonder, in a field of dreams

you'll look back and regret

a life that wasn't what it seemed

The risk that you took

was bigger than the ocean

So, to the Master we go

I'm all out of emotion

I cannot be bullied

or told to sit down

Time to Pay Your Tab

The diner is shutting down

No more credit extensions

no more IOU's

time to clear up your balance

whatever form of payment you choose

will not be enough

Thought you were a Big Man

now things will really be rough.

So while you're packing up your life

and returning mine in a box

Just remember You're the one who ordered

and put me through this school of hard knocks

I'll be okay, my feet on the ground

and I'll make reservations somewhere better

the next time around.

That's the story of all split ups but not all are the guy's fault.

Pete, thanks for your comment, and you are absolutely right. It works both ways, and many women have assumed the "cheating" role too!..Guess we all have our stories, and unlike mine, some are never told. Thanks for reading!

Some guys just don't get it, Erin....and anyone who would leave someone as sweet as you behind is the king of fools....soon it will all be history, and the rest of your life's adventures can begin.....John
