Time to really tell the truth
64This has gone too far
Hello guys, it's me, João Jerónimo, and I think we should end all this crap about americans being or not the best of the world and having or not reasons to be proud of being americans.
It really got dirty; First funnebone made a hub with an very ofending title to Europeans, and I felt I couldn't leave it like that, so I made a hub that was exactly the oposite of funnebone's hub. No one liked it, but in the end people agreed on what I wanted them to agree: US is not the best country in the world, as every country, US has it's flaws.
Why did I made that hub ? What did I want with it ?
Some people say I wanted 15 minutes of fame (like funnebone), others say I'm really anti-american and really hate the US for some reasons (these vary from jealousy to suffering because of living in Maputo), and others make fun of me and tell the most absurd things.
This is all nonsense.
I wrote that hub to be the exact opposite of funnebone's hub. If funnebone's hub said "Europeans can kiss my red white and blue" and make people think that the US is the best country of the world, mine was meant to say the exact opposite, except I never insulted americans telling them to kiss anyone's ass.
I am not anti-america and I don't hate America or Americans. I have more to do than to think if I'm in favour or against the US. I'm not even a politician, I'm a student. I don't have to think about these questions, there are people in charge of doing that.
It's true that I hate somethings about the US, but those are things between the US and other countries. What goes inside the US is none of my business. I'm not even going to tell what I dislike in the US, just not to start any other discussion.
Mozambique is not how many people painted here. It's a great place to live. My parents' have a nice income, I have my own maids and a driver, I go everyday to my very nice school that is very well equipped with computers, wireless networks, projectors in every classroom, and with very nice and well qualified teachers. I eat well in my home, there are actually cars in the streets. Of course it has poverty, like every country does, but again, it has also very nice places to live and very nice things to do, like every country does. Painting that poor image of Mozambique was foolish, specially because just wasn't on trial on all those discussions. I'm going to a university in Portugal, and perhaps I'll do a post-graduation course in England, but after that I want to come back to my home town and live happily here.
But for some people it just wasn't enough
Yep, some people just couldn't stop there, and someday I just got in the hub and had comments with hub addresses, one from oberbreckling and one from hoverdawg72.
What were this hubs about ?
oberbreckling's hub
He just decided to make fun of my home town and my family. He drawn a nasty image of my family and thought it was funny.
Then he just spammed my hub with addresses to his hub with things like this:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Facts-about-Joaos-home-town-of-Maputo-Mozambique
more on joao's home life the way he lives the way he grew up check it out it's very interesting to see what kind of life him and his family must live.it's just a terrible thing how bitter you are to someone lending a hand buddy
It got really sad to see what he was doing. It really got childish, but he closed the hub after appearing on HubPages' front page and getting some attention.
hoverdawg72's hub
On this other side, hoverdawg72 was trying to restart the discussion that reached an agreement. He tried at all cost to start everything again, but I refused to read his hub and participate in it, because, as I explained several times, that discussion had already been had and people reached an agreement. He used to just pretend I didn't explain that and tease me to get in the discussion. He insulted me in his hub and then said he didn't insult me or made fun of me, and that he only wanted me to stand up and explain myself. I also did that way before he published the hub.
The really sad thing
Given to the fact that the discussion had ended some days before and hoverdawg72 wanted to restart it so badly and even posted a link to his hub with a tracker, I think he only wanted to make some bucks with adsense because he knew he would have some attention.
On the other hand, oberbreckling's attempt to make fun of me and my family was really childish and it made him look bad specially after he spammed my hub. I left his spam comments there so I could laugh at him, and that's what I did.
The 3 hubs (mine, oberbreckling's and hoverdawg72's) got on HubPages' first page, in the "Hot Hubs" list.
Some good things
Although all of this was really sad, there were some good things in all of this. I really got some nice comments in my hub, for instance this one from Hexxor:
There are serious reasons to dislike USA. One of the reasons is its lack of democracy. The real wielders of power within the united States are the big capitalists and the military-industrial complex. They pay big money to the television networks to promote their president of choise. "The richest always win".
United States today is a two party state. It is not very different to a one party state in the sense that the political ideology are nearly the same between the two parties.
There is little pluralism in the political system of United States.
Independently of wich president is chosen, the wars will continue, the torture will continue, The reach for global domination by the United States will continue, the NATOfication of the world will continue. The IMF and the World bank will continue to empoverish nations, the CIA will continue to interfere in the domestic affairs of foreign nations, secret murders, secret bribes, secret everything really...
CIA will never be accountable in any United States court for all of its evils.
Before United States decides it want to wage war against a nation, the president and staff usually stir up the media in order to prepare the United State people mentally for going to war. The media accomplicity in this is quite unresponsible.
All of those evils will continue and the "people" the greater amount of "americans" will not be able to stop those very evils.
The other reason to dislike United States is because they do evil in the world. One of these evil it the willful empoverishing of undeveloped nations. There are three instruments to do this: the IMF, the World bank and the WTO. The World bank give loans to nations in order to create a foreign debts that nations will not be able to pay back. The IMF is the intrument of choise for this, its a dual faced organization. In order for this mechanism tro work perfectly there is a need for a "traitor" agent. The "traitor" agent in this case are the economists raised and educated by the various Catholic Universities in Latin America. Their method of work can be described as such: "steal from the poor to give to the rich".
Today United States Corporations get raw materials for free from Latin America while the various nations are still paying the foregin debt. The measures taken by those nation proposed by the IMF are such that they cannot pay the foreign debt, so they are forced to pay back the debt by "selling off" raw materials such as copper ore, gold ore, and other minerals.
Other evils that undeveloped nations have done is to privatise the national owned industries, thus empoverishing a nation. The most angriyng of all this is that the World bank has granted loans to Facistic dictatorships sponsored by the United States. All actions taken by dictatorships are illegal since a dictatorship by itself is an illegality. So loans taken by nations during a dictatoship should not count as an legitimate thing.
Another reason to dislike United States is because of its hipocrisy. The war on terror. Lets begin by prosecuting the Terrorists sponsored by United States first shall we? .... -> impossible! its impossible !!Its Damned Impossible !!!
All because of the "National Security" dogma.
So, how do you fight agains this oppresive eagle? - the answer is simple: you cannot! they control everything!
The worlds mightiest army. Any movement who seeks to distribute wealth move evenly between the poor and the rich and to establish free healthcare and free education for all people, so that the rich pay more taxes is seen as either socialism or communism and its something that the CIA must combat.
The riches of undeveloped nations should be owned by the nation so that the benefit of it comes to the majority of its people so that the nation can be strong and able to support its people for the sake of the people. In order to archieve this nationalization is a necessity. However those measures will always ANGER United States in a great way because thay want to be owner of the riches of other nations.
Now, my own point of view may be viewed as biased towards socialism/communism. Will the CIA target me now? - probably! but do i care? - NO!
This world is submerged in darkness, a little light will always help.
It's a bit long but it's really worth reading it.
Another good thing was SweetiePie's participation in my previous hub. She showed a great understanding capability and I really liked her comments in my hub. One of the few Americans with nice comments on that hub. She did well by totally abandoning the discussion when it got really nasty.
In the end,
This was all nonsense and everyone has it's opinions, being a proud american or being an anti-american, living in the US or not. There is stupidity in every country, bad politicians in every country, poverty in every country, flaws in every country.
Let's not talk about what the US has done and who should thank the US for some reason.
Let's all agree that every nation and country has great things and bad things.
Can we put and end to this ?
Let's not make enemies here
PS:
As it happened before, I hope some people don't say I'm backing out because I know I'm loosing or will lose something. This is really false. When I abandon something, it's because it got stupid. The only reason I didn't delete my previous hub was because later I could look at it and laught (I already did, at some people).
I don't wish to start another discussion on this subject
I thing everything here was discussed and a very nice agreement was reached. Please don't start it all over again, or else, you can start but don't think you count with me in it just like hoverdawg72 wanted. I also already explained myself so I consider myself done with all this.
Please don't be rude in the comments
I really got some disturbing and insulting comments the previous hub, lots of them. I'm not mad at anyone because it's stupid to be mad at someone who we don't even know and have never seen before, but please don't be rude again.
If you don't have anything to say, don't say anything at all. It's way better not having any comments than having rude and insulting comments.
Please understand english is not my first language
Some people said I write pretty badly, others that I have some grammar and spelling errors. I use the spellcheck button everytime, but please understand that english is not my first language and I didn't grow up speaking english. I only learned it at school some years ago, and I bet some people would be a lot worse than if they tried to learn Portuguese.
Links to the other hubs
- funnebone's hub
The place where all started. My hub was made to reply to this one. - My hub: Hey Americans, you're not the kings of the world!
This hub was made to reply to funnebone's hub. It got 145 comments, 844 views till now, and a hubscore of 90 (which uses to balance). Things got really nasty in the comments, specially in the end. - mattd241's hub
He just called me an idiot, showed a poverty index map of Mozambique in 2000, and said the US provides aid to Mozambique and I should be thankful for that. I only replied once. - hoverdawg72's hub
This was a response to my hub, but the discussion had already ended and I refused to participate there. - oberbreckling's hub
This hub was only made to make fun of me, my family and my home town. The sad thing is that he doesn't know me, hasn't got an idea of whom my family is, and has never been in my hometown or heard of it.

Hi joaojeronimo,I'm sure that the one person that commented that isn't here anymore is probably more than sorry and wants you to have good luck in your hubbing.
Blackbird, It's nice of you to understand it, and I liked the response in your hub. Thanks for realising everything you did and not being like the others who would keep discussing this to their deaths. I have already explained why my first hub was like that, it was really meant to be like that.
truestory, I wouldn't be so optimist but thanks anyways :)
You are such a back stepper. You couldn't answer DAWGS debates because you were wrong .I have kept up with it all. YOU ARE A LOSER, STOP FEELING SORRY FOR YOUR SELF ABOUT WHAT IS BEING SAID ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY.BOO HOO!!!!! I'M DONE WASTING MY TIME
Dear Angela,
I'm not a back stepper, I never stepped back. I just ignored everything for some days because it wouldn't get further. If you had kept up with it all from the beginning you'd see that all those questions had been answered perhaps more than once and all Dawg wanted was probably the same discussion in his hub so he could make some with adsense.
I have no problems with what people say about my country, it's my country and I love living here and I don't care about what people say... Do you think I would listen to people that never been here or heard of Mozambique and say it is like they say ? It would be stupid to believe in that.
If you have so much time then why don't you find yourself something useful to do ? Perhaps charity :) ?
Joao,
Angela did not even sign up for hubpages, so I would not worry so much :).
Another thing I feel that should not happen is people insulting someone's writing ability or just calling someone names. I may not have agreed with everything you said in your previous hub, but some of those things people said to you were not nice. I am glad you have decided not to let those comments upset you, especially since you do not know these people. I think you are doing very well for someone who is writing in a second language, so that is an accomplishment in itself.
SweetiePie,
Yes, it sure wasn't nice and I'm glad you understand my situation :) Not everyone is born a polyglot and I'm still young and hope that someday I can write proper english... But my teachers have always said I write very well in portuguese...
Don't you find it funny that now that I want to end all the bad things going on those guys who were making a lot of noise don't even show up lol ?
Don't let Blackbird fool you not all Americans think President Bush is horrible. I don't for one. At least we have not been attacked again since he has been in office.
Our military are proud to serve few are not.
The hub you put up was horrible and I see you still have it up. If you really feel bad about it you would take it down.
Blackberry, yes I'm not sure if I feel bad about it... I feel bad about somethings there, but not all of them... and I think I should keep it up because of everyone's comments there... it's nice to laugh at some of them once in a while...

To answer your question, I never had any big dispute. I simply don't like to hear statements that are based on prejudice and not fact. Not all of your hub was based on prejudice, you did include facts, I do realize that. What I read had an undertone of anti-American feelings, and some rude comments with no base in fact.
The basic message my hub was trying to send is this: America isn't perfect, never was perfect, probably never will be, but neither is any other nation. I have absolutely no prejudice against Europeans (be they from Iraq, Paris or anywhere else), and I expect the same. I expect people who live in other nations to realize that Bush is a horrible president, but that is not a reflection on America, it is a reflection of one administration. Just like the poverty status, or lack there of, of Mozambique is not indicative of every single person who lives there.
I updated my hub, for more of a responce go here: http://hubpages.com/hub/America-Doesnt-Suck-Its-Ju
