An online job application for Jack in the Box is, to borrow an easy phrase, a no-brainer. If you are from California, Texas, Arizona, or from the West coast area, you would easily find a Jack in the Box restaurant in your district you want to work in.

However, there are certain factors that you have to consider. Jack in the Box has 2,100 locations, a major national fast food restaurant, and even has a school (Jacks University) to teach people skills in a fast food business.

This means that you have thousands of competitors all skilled (and maybe have some experience, too) in the fast food business. What to do then?

Résumé updates

One of the most important documents you present to your prospective employer is your résumé. The big question is: Have you updated your résumé lately?

Have you taken and finished some courses or any other achievements related to the job you want in the company?  If so, have you included those?

Update your résumé. Send this latest version to their hiring manager. Just like the good old standard ways, address right away the criteria specified in their ads.

Show to them that you have their requirements, and give examples of your professional knowledge, experience and present skills.

Be a standout

In a competitive world, standing out from the crowd is always an advantage. In an application letter, the way to do it is to apply a “hook”. This is to capture right away the attention of the hiring manager.

One trade information: the first parts of the email that employers look at first are the subject line and the first few lines of your cover letter.

The secret is to write out the words you think best fits you. They should be direct, concise, and from the heart, impressive enough but not an overkill.

It should tell the hiring manager why you are the ideal candidate, if not the top candidate. Nowadays, cover letters are written directly into the email.

Be brief

One very important note: keep your cover letter brief. Do not go over one page. This way, it will come out professional, urgent, and to the point.

Thoroughly proofread your application letter. One trick is to read out loud what you wrote. This is how to spot those errors you may have overlooked during silent reading. Ask for help from friends, if need be.

Since online applications take seconds to send, you can safely assume that these are processed just as fast, sometimes right away or maybe a few days, maximum. If a week had passed and you have not heard from the Jack in the Box people, it does not hurt to follow up.

There are two ways of doing this. If it is possible (the company address is near) and they allow it, you may follow up your application with a phone call. A professional conversation with your potential employer signals your interest and initiative.

Of course, you do NOT ramble on aimlessly. Prepare your notes on the key points, and make them clear. (Check out the Internet for additional information about Jack in the Box. It may not impress, but at least you would know what to answer them.)

These are just some general tips for your Jack in the Box online job application. The actual work is up to you.
