It is said that hair loss occurs in one out of every five females and two out of every three males. Hair loss is usually caused by a multiplicity of factors such as genetics, burns, sickness, hormonal changes, stress, medicine, infections, poor nutrition and aging among other factors.  In most cases, hair loss occurs in older people but there are cases where adolescents are affected by hair loss.

There are a number of remedies which help in prevention of hair loss. One of them is ensuring that you have a well balanced diet on a daily basis.  Nutritionists claim that eating particular foods will help prevent hair loss. These are foods which are rich in vitamins, proteins and iron. Protein is important since hair is made up of keratin, which is a protein. You should eat fish, eggs, beans, chicken, soy milk and yoghurt.  Having enough iron in your body ensures that you have adequate hemoglobin levels in your body which ensures that enough oxygen is circulated in your scalp. Raisins and red meat provide good amounts iron. Silica helps in the absorption of vitamins and minerals in your body. A good source of silica is potatoes.

In addition, you should wash your hair regularly, one or twice a week. If you are experiencing hair loss, wash you hair using baby shampoo and do not rub too vigorously when washing or drying off your hair.  Use a good conditioner which will not be too harsh on your hair. Avoiding hairstyles which put stress on your hair by pulling it. You should also avoid hairstyles which use a lot of heat equipment such as blow dry’s and tongs. Over coloring your hair can also cause hair loss. You should not color your hair in within six to eight weeks of your last coloring. You should avoid styling your hair while it is still wet as this can cause your hair to break. Hair loss prevention can be achieved in easy ways in some cases. For instance if your hair loss is caused by the medication you are taking, you can simply ask your physician to take you off the drugs and give you alternative medication. Using hats continuously for long periods of time can cause baldness since the hats rub on particular areas on your head, therefore go easy on the hats.

The Washington Post stated that 3.5 billion is pent every year on products to prevent hair loss. You will be interested to know that only 0.01% of them work. In this light, what features should you look out for when you want to purchase a genuine hair loss prevention product? Genuine products usually come as a package deal with drugs, shampoos and herbal products. Herbs that are effective in preventing hair loss are aloe Vera, Rosemary and Lemon Grass. This products work by stimulating your hair to grow and by protecting your scalp and hair. Hair loss prevention products are usually administered by massaging into the scalp or hair or they are taken as oral pills. A good example is the vitamin pill procerin, which are given to men who have hair loss due to alopecia. Provillus is the vitamin pill given to women to stimulate hair growth.

Some of the disadvantages of using chemical methods to prevent hair loss is that some of them have not been proved to effectively encourage hair loss. For instance Minoxidil which has been touted as preventing hair loss and approved by FDA has not been proved to work. Moreveover, most of them have side effects such as erectile dysfunction in men, acne and headaches.

Hair loss prevention can also be dealt with using shampoo treatments. Shampoos work by deep cleansing hair and the scalp to remove dirt, sweat and grime which have accumulated in one’s head leading to hair loss. Again, if you are taking alcohol, smoking or taking any kind of drugs, desisting from them can help to reduce hair loss.

Hair loss prevention products can be bought over the counter or through prescription on the recommendation of a physician. In case of severe hair loss, intense treatment will need to be undertaken such as undergoing hair replacement. This is through hair transplants or the use of wigs and weaves.

If you want to know how to prevent hair loss, you will first need tounderstand what the main causes of your hair loss is. Each individual has different and unique causes for hair loss. To do this, you may need to undergo a thorough analysis and examination of your hair. Once you identify your main cause, then you will be able to administer the right treatment.

Currently, there are companies which deal specifically with treating hair loss. These companies provide package programs which will see one receive treatment from examination to complete recovery. These programs can take up to four months before one sees tangible results. Theses companies usually work by putting their clients through a wide range of products from the same company.
