How To Buy A Classic Ford On E-bay Without Getting Ripped Off
67Buying an old Ford On Ebay
If you are a Ford lover like me then you may browse the Ebay Motors ads from time to time dreaming of a new toy to park in your garage, or in my case out on the street since my garage is already full of classic Fords.
There are some good deals on Classic Ford cars and trucks on Ebay but you need to be careful. For example you need to ask lots of questions such as was it a frame off restoration? Did they use original or the best duplicate parts available or does it have a Chevy or Dodge engine instead of a rebuilt Ford one. Get as many photos from the seller as possible, of every angle.
Check his feedback and his comments. Are most of his feedback comments from him or her buying small items or is there some indication he is a good seller as well as a buyer.
Avoid sellers with very little feedback. I would say under fifty is something to beware of with a purchase as large as a classic Ford car.
Avoid those sellers who have a feedback score less than ninety five or so. Most ideally it would be a hundred with lots of transactions.
Ask if they are the true owner of the car and not just selling it for someone else. Are they a first time restorer and what are their credentials as a classic car restorer. Often first time hobby projects are plagued with problems and unfinished items.
Is the restoration 100% complete or is there some item they did not know how to restore? This is a good indicator of quality and you should steer way clear of any project that just needs " such and such" to be done and especially ones where they say they "ran out of money" before they could finish since this is also an indication of quality.
What shape is the frame in? How much of the frame is non metal? See if you can find a lemonbusters type of appraiser specializing in classic cars in the cit where the bidder lives to come and check it out before you bid. If the buyer is hesitant about you doing so this is a warning sign.
Also make sure the title is clear. It can be a nightmare, trust me, to get a bonded title.
Good Luck and Happy Bidding.
