If you are looking for a way to reduce the potential for cavities then you have found the right place. A healthy mouth and healthy teeth start with good brushing and flossing but there are also many other things that can be done to help keep your teeth healthy and preven cavities.
I have been following a bunch of these tips for years and I haven't gotten a cavity since I was about 10 years old. Maybe its luck, but maybe its following all of these tips. No matter what it can't hurt to follow these tips.
The first and most important thing in reducing cavities is to make sure you brush very well at least twice a day. Morning and night. I prefer to brush after every meal but most dentist recommend at least morning and night. When brushing it is important to get all areas of your teeth and make sure you get a new toothbrush often. Getting an electric toothbrush can help a ton in allowing you to brush better. When brushing you want to use a flouride based toothbrush.
The second most important thing is to be sure that you floss and use mouthwash everyday. Both of these are very important. Not many people floss daily and thats a major reason why the get cavities. Food gets caught in between the teeth that only flossing can get out.
Using a straw when drinking sugary drinks like pop can help a lot to. It helps to keep the drink from getting all over your teeth and eating away an the enamel. Another thing you can do is make sure to drink water while eating sweet things. This can act as floss does and wash away sugars that otherwise might be stuck between your teeth and cause damage. If at all possible you really should avoid sugary drinks all together.
Eating fruit is another great way to help reduce cavities. When you eat fruit it almost acts as a natural brusher and cleans your teeth a bit.
Checking sugar free gum is another way to significantly reduce your risk for cavities.
Another thing you can do is drink green tea. Green tea is a natural source of flourine which can help strength your teeth and enamel and make cavities less likely.
