Cholesterol is a lipid that is present in human body tissue and blood, concentrated especially in the liver, pancreas, spinal cord and brain. Its appearance is similar to a substance soft, waxy fat-like. Cholesterol is normal because our body uses to produce cell membranes and some hormones, but the thing is worse when we have more cholesterol than medically indicated.

High cholesterol can cause heart disease and strokes, so the Spanish Society of Arteriosclerosis, provides healthy levels of cholesterol for the population:

     * Below 200 mg / dL: low risk.
     * Between 200 and 300 mg / dL: intermediate risk.
     * Greater than 300 mg / dL: high risk.

Five tips for cholesterol and not die trying:

    1. Avoid smoking and coffee, this is not the caffeine, but for other components that increase cholesterol.
    2. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and cereals such as apple, olive oil, avocados, lentils, peas, oats, carrots, cabbage, onion and broccoli.
    3. Watch consumption of eggs because the yolk is concentrated cholesterol, eat no more than 3 eggs a week. If you're eating the clear, no problem because it has no cholesterol.
    4. Moderate consumption of animal products such as meats, dairy, meats and butter are saturated fats that raise cholesterol.
    5. Exercise regularly to maintain blood flow activity and burn bad fats.

In a study in three villages in India who consumed a diet very similar but differed in their consumption of garlic and onions was found that higher consumption of these lower cholesterol and triglycerides.

Another study found that garlic juice made by the Company Kyolic was a reduction of 12 to 15 percent in most people after six months.

Garlic helps to protect the lining of the arteries of the damage caused by oxidation and reduces the level of fibrinogen a factor in clot formation.

Consumption of garlic supplements may not be necessary if you increase the consumption of garlic in the diet. In a study conducted by the medical school of the University of Massachusetts in 1994 found that adults who consumed a medium clove garlic and a clove of garlic daily had a cholesterol level of 9 percent lower than other people. It is better to consume raw garlic when cooked because you lose some of the properties that make it useful for lowering cholesterol. Studies also suggest that cholesterol reduction is achieved with fresh garlic supplementation with aged garlic supplements (aged garlic). There are many garlic supplements in capsule form. Some of them are advertised as having the typical odor of garlic. These products are helpful in reducing cholesterol levels.
