How To Save On Your Electric Bill - 8 Money Saving Electricity Tips
58Everyone wants to save money these days. Every buck saved helps out!
Here's a few tips to help you save some dough on your electric bill.
1. Thermostat
The first tip to help you save on your electric bill is to adjust your thermostat.
When you are at home you should set your thermostat to a reasonable temperature. An ideal temperature for cooling is about 78 degrees, and for heating you should stay around 68 degrees.
Also keep your thermostat fan switched to "auto" not "on."
You should also adjust the temperature when you leave, or even better turn the unit off completely while you are out.
2. Lights and Fans
Most everyone knows to turn off their lights when they leave a room, but a lot of people overlook the fan!
When you leave a room switch off the light AND the fan!
Just one fan, running constantly, can cost about $7.00 a month depending on it's size and age.
3. Pool Pump
If you have a pool, you should only run your pool's pump as often as necessary.
If you are not using your pool, such as during winter, turn the pump off!
To help limit the amount time your pump runs, don't use an automatic timer, turn the pump on and off manually.
4. Dryer
If you have a clothes dryer clean the lint filter before each load so that the drying time is as short as possible.
Or you can hang dry your clothes, this obviously will help save a lot more!
5. T.V.
Only have your T.V. on when you are watching it!
If you leave the room, or the house, turn off your T.V.!!!
6. Unplug It!
One big thing that most people don't even realize or think about is to unplug power cords and chargers.
Did you know that your cell phone charger is using electric any time it's plugged in? Even when you aren't charging your phone!
Same with most appliances and electronics.
So unplug your chargers and appliances and save!
7. Breaker Switches
Another huge tip that many people don't know is that you can simply flip your breaker switches to the "off" position.
Make sure that you know which breaker switches go to what, you don't want to turn off your fridge/freezer or some other appliances.
If the breaker switch is on you are using electricity!
8. Upgrade
If you want to save money, sometimes you have to spend some money. If you want to fork out some cash you can upgrade to energy-saving appliances.
There are many new energy-saving appliances these days. Shop around!
You can also buy energy saving bulbs. Put these in every room and you should notice a difference!

If one has to stick to the appliances one is using, then efficient use of energy really is the issue, which you've covered here pretty well. Some hubs I've been to recommend selling the old appliances and getting more efficient, more energy saving ones. In the long run, they'd save you time, effort, money.
You're right on about the fan. Many people overlook that. :D

In these trying times, we really need all the cost-reduction tips we can find. Homes with large windows that let sunlight in is a good find. But that means window blinds or large curtains, in case there's too much sun. It's good that electricity-saving tips can be available to anyone through the web. I work in property auctions, in the foreclosed homes sector. Admittedly, a part of me wishes the people who had lost their homes to foreclosures had the foresight to have cut down on expenditures to make their monthly payments. So they wouldn't have lost their homes.
