Tips to applying to Law School

There are three main tips to applying to law school that one needs to keep in mind. The first is that your GPA and LSAT scores do matter. The second is personal statements can help you out a lot and third don't be afraid to ask for recomendation letters.

Most freshman in college don't think that there GPA is that important, but they are sadly mistaken. I can say this from personal experience because my freshman year my greatest concern was having fun in my fraternity. This caused my GPA to plummet to below average standards. I have spent the last four years continually working to increase it, and only because of the fact that I have almost always pulled 4.0's is it even anywhere near acceptable to apply to law school. This is also important with law schools because if they believe see steady improvment then that looks better than a steady decline.

The second key is your personal statement because this allows you to set yourself apart from the other students. If your personal statement is not very strong then it can make getting into certain law schools even harder. I will be using my experience from my BBQ team and my internship which I devoted a lot of time to as the basis of my personal statement. Essentially what you are trying to do is to find a niche that very few people have and talk about it and explain how it is important to you.

The third and final key is your recomendation letters because these show a personal connection with your professors or where you have worked. These can also be helpful depending on who you have interned for or studied under because they may have connections to a certain law school and this can increase your chances of gaining admitance to the school.

I am giving these insights as I see them and I am currently going through the process of applying and I take the LSAT this saturday.

I did the law school thing.

You MUST have good grades, and pick your schools well. If you are going to go to law school - go to an ABA accredited law school. To go to a top teir school it requires fabulous grades, fabulous LSAT scores, and FABULOUS everything. Or else you need a really depressing story about being on the street and then getting your degree and changing your life around.

The best thing to do is get a great LSAT score. That will open doors. It is the first thing that a school looks at. Everything else is secondary.

Also, make a visit to the school. When you go, talk to the Dean of Admissions. Make sure they have a face to put with the name. It helps make a personal connection.

Keep in mind that some of the best environments in law schools come with lower ranked schools who must do more to get their students to pass the bar. They tend to have more tutoring and teacher involvement. They also work hard to get their students jobs, because they have to do it to move up in the rankings.

Good luck.
