Whether you are feeling over burdened by work or a broken relationship or the loss of a loved one, here are a few proven ways to practice stress management.
Listening and Singing Along to Your Favorite Tunes is a Great Way to Relieve Stress
Relieve Stress by Singing a Song
The first way I like to relieve stress is by listening to my favorite tunes and singing along. Now, my singing may cause others to have more stress, but one of my favorite ways to unwind is to turn on the stereo and sing and sway with the music. Another way I relieve stress is toturn off the stereo and sing a series of my own favorite tunes accapella. I find a quiet spot, close my eyes and start singing. By the time I've worked my way through five or six choruses I am relaxed and ready to face new challenges.
What is Your Favorite Book to Read?
Relieve Stress by Getting Lost in a Movie or Good Book
The second way I like to relieve stress is to curl up on the couch and get lost in a movie or good book. If I choose to watch a film, I want to watch something that is light and perhaps humorous. My wife likes to immerse herself in a good mystery whodunit book.
How Do You Feel about a Messy Desk?
Relieve Stress by Cleaning Clutter from Your Worksurfaces
I third way I like to relieve stress is to clean up the clutter on my desk and other worksurfaces. Now my wife would say that I can tolerate quite a bit of clutter; however there is a point where having a trashed desk or cluttered floors drives me insane. When just about everything seems out of place, I feel out of control and that grates on my nerves. Cleaning my worksurfaces can help me feel like I'm back together again and able to conquer whatever lies ahead.
Solitude and Silence
Relieve Stress through Prayer and Meditation
A fifth manner to relieve stress is to meditate and pray. The key is to find a quiet place where you can experience silence and solitude. When I make time to get away and spend time with the Almighty Living God, I am able to transfer the heavy burdens of the day from my frail soul to the shoulders of the one who loves me more than any other. Then I find the peace that surpasses understanding.
