56Redecorate on a Budget
I have been a college student for a while and have seen worked hard make every space I move into personalized. This may not be perfect for every student but it is always good to check out a local music store that changes posters on a regular basis. Where I go to school the we have a music store on campus and they give away the posters to people the put dibs on them once the posters are changed out. I have collected a lot of posters that way and the great this is that they are free.
Besides music store poster you can go to a craft store and buy clearance fabric to cover the walls. It can work depending on how what you can find in the store and your tastes. The prices on fabrics can vary from $0.99/yard (or cheaper may be) and above.
Another cheap way to get that room looking good on a low budget is to get buy second hand items. The first and foremost place to look for these cheapies are of course your local weekend yard sale. People get rid of lots of furniture and all sorts of neat stuff every weekend out in-front of their home. I mean the great thing with a yard sale is that anything that catches your eye is yours for the taking if you are good at negotiating. Then of course there are great second stand stores like Goodwill or consignment stores. One great envirnmental concept of going second hand with items is that you are continuing the recycling process.
Of course last but not least you can head into a chain store if you have enough money and to go for some cheap modern items you should look at Walmart and Target that specifically sets aside a section for back to college decor. I know that items start probably from as low as may $1 for a stapler to $250 for a futon. A great thing about these stores is that if you wait a few weeks from now any left over college themed items will be on sale. As well as the two above stores there are places like Ikea, Ross, Marshalls or T.J. Maxx that sell items year round. If you can't find cheap items at Walmart that you would like you need to take a run at Marshalls because more than likely there will be a markdown item from Bed Bath and Beyond there. Also Ikea the Swedish store that is sweeping the country is a great modern store that has lots of affordable items. I have found a cheap good quality desk chair for $39.99, a beautiful flower art picture for $2.99 and plates from $1.99 a piece. If you can actually get to an Ikea store somewhere near you will like what you see.
No matter what budget you have, if you wanna make an appartment yours you have to go out and explore the possibilities.
