Introduction to cleaning the grout in your kitchen

Kitchens can easily become on of the dirtiest places in your house.  Not only do you spend a lot of time in your kitchen eating, many people cook up quite a storm in their kitchens.  One of the most common black splash and counter top materials is tile.  With the enormous use of your kitchen, not only will your kitchen tile become dirty, but your grout will become dirty as well.  Here are a few tips on how to get dirt and grime out of your kitchen grout for good!

Grout Cleaning - Getting Started

The following information is being provided after a lot of research was done around the web, including the primary source of pro grout cleaning. Use a combination of soap and water, or vinegar and water.  Both substances are irritants, which will help lift the dirt and other grime out of your grout quickly.  Using soap and vinegar may require you to scrub vigorously, however, if you simply cannot remove the grime after several minutes of vigorous scrubbing, it will most likely not come out with this method.  Once you have exhausted the less caustic methods of removing dirt and grime from your kitchen grout, you will need to move up to something that has some more power behind it.

Applying bleach or other stringent cleaning agents to your kitchen tile and grout should be done carefully.  Your kitchen is an area you use often, and using bleach or other cleaning agents incorrectly can possibly cause serious harm to you and your family.  Pour a small amount of bleach or ammonia on the area of the grout that is dirty.  Then let the bleach sit for several minutes.  Next, return to the bleach and scrub vigorously back and forth over the area for thirty seconds.  Finally, remove the bleach, ammonia or other cleaning agent with a paper towel or sponge.  Make sure to wash this area down with disinfectant after removing the filthy grout to be certain the area is clear of any remaining cleaning agents.

When you are trying to get rid of grout in the kitchen, you should always start with the less powerful methods.  These methods will ensure that you can clean your kitchen and still have a safe kitchen.  However, if you need to break out chemicals, make sure to use caution and clean the area with regular soap and water afterwards to avoid causing injury to your family.  Hopefully you can remove the nasty  filth and scum that has built up on your kitchen grout once and for all!
