Have you been searching for a longer lasting hair dye? Here are some tips of things you can do or not do for longer lasting hair dye. There are a list of do's and don'ts, first the don'ts. Don't wash your hair to often. Don't get too much sun on your hair. Don't get chlorine on your hair. Don't use dandruff shampoo. Now the dos you can do for longer lasting hair dye. Do wash your hair in cold water. Do use color boosting shampoo and conditioner. Do use hair sunscreen. Do get a good color job to begin with.

Don'ts for longer lasting hair dye.

  1. Don't wash your hair to often.
  2. Don't get too much sun on your hair.
  3. Don't get chlorine on your hair.
  4. Don't use dandruff shampoo.


When trying to achieve longer lasting hair dye don't wash your hair too often. Washing the hair causes the color to fade. Sometimes hair can become messy after a nights sleep. If this is the case, dampen your hair in the morning to help tame and manage your hair. Everyday washing is not recommended for hair that has been dyed.

You don't want to get too much sun on your hair. Again this makes the color dye fade. If you are going to be out in the sun all day, try wearing a hat. Or even staying in the shade will help the hair dye to last longer. Sun fades many things and hair is one of them. Dyed hair is even more susceptible.


Another don't for longer lasting hair dye is to stay out of the chlorine. Chlorine not only fades hair dye, but it can also distort the color of your hair. If you are going to get in water that has been chlorinated, use a swimming cap to minimize the chlorine that can get to your hair.

Don't' use dandruff shampoo. There are a lot of shampoos available, you shouldn't have to use dandruff shampoo. Dandruff shampoo has many chemicals in it that will take the color right out of your hair.

Dos for longer lasting hair dye.

  1. Do wash your hair in cold water.
  2. Do use color boosting shampoo and conditioner.
  3. Do use hair sunscreen.
  4. Do get a good color job to begin with.


You do want to wash your dyed hair in cold water. Cold water helps keep the color lasting longer. The hot water strips the hair dye off your hair. The colder the water the better, so get it as cold as you can stand.

It would be a good idea to use color boosting shampoo and conditioner. Most hair care product lines carry a color boosting or color safe shampoo and conditioner. Use these shampoos and conditioners until you have the color you want on your hair. Then stop using them.

Do try to use a hair sunscreen. There are many spray-on hair sunscreens available. Any SPF is better than none for your dyed hair. As mentioned before the sun will fade the hair dye color, fast.

Do get a good hair color job to begin with. That doesn't mean you have to go to a salon. Although a good salon will do the best job, provided the hair stylists know what they are doing. Sometimes a hair dye job done at home is better than a salon. The point is, that if the dye job isn't done correctly; it won't last very long at all.

As you are trying to keep you're hair dye lasting longer, keep these do and don't tips in mind. Don't wash your hair to often and don't use dandruff shampoo.
