Losing Belly Fat Doesn't Have to be Hard

When it comes to losing belly fat it can be difficult for both men and women. If you've been trying to get rid of your stomach fat for any length of time you know that's true! Part of the problem is that it is one of the last areas on our bodies which makes it a little more stubborn to get rid of. For women, losing belly fat can be complicated by issues like pregnancy and hormones.

The good news is that you can lose belly fat relatively easily - you just may have been approaching it wrong and making it more difficult than it needs to be. Most people focus on following a low calorie or low fat diet, doing lots of cardio and pumping out sit-ups or crunches until they are blue in the face thinking it is going to help them lose belly fat. In fact, though, starvation diets, sit-ups and cardio are not the answer to getting rid of that stubborn bulge.

Here are some tips for losing belly fat that should get you on your way.

Logically it may seem like doing sit-up after sit-up would be the best way to get rid of stomach fat, right? Unfortunately, though, doing sit-ups just builds your stomach muscles and doesn't do anything to get rid of the fat that you are carrying in your midsection. That means that you may have a great set of abs, but they are hidden away under a layer of fat so no one can see them.

If that's the case then the key is to get rid of the fat that is hiding your stomach muscles. Most people immediately assume that the best way to get rid of fat on their bodies is to do tons and tons of cardio. While it is true that cardio helps you burn lots of calories, there is actually a better way of turning your body into a fat burning machine.

Rather than focusing just on cardio, you should shift your focus toward strength training. See, muscles takes a lot more energy for your body to maintain than fat does, and your body provides that energy to your muscles in the form of calories. The more lean muscle you have on your body the more calories you are going to burn - even while you are just sitting around. By adding muscle to your body you boost your metabolim, burn more calories and drop your belly fat much more quickly than by doing cardio.

Try adding strength training to your workout routine to build more lean muscle all over your body. It is especially good to focus on the largest muscle groups in your body like your legs and backside by doing squats and lunges. You should still do some cardio, but try to do your strength training before your cardio if you do them both on the same day.

Ladies, don't worry - adding lean muscle to your body is not going to make your "bulk up" or get bigger. Instead it will give you that sleek, toned look like models and actresses have.

Finally, to lose fat quickly you need to eat the right kinds of foods. Most diets are designed for weight loss rather than fat loss. That means that you are not just losing fat, but are losing muscle and water weight as well. When you lose muscle your metabolism slows down and it becomes harder to get rid of your belly fat. Makes sense, right?

That means that instead of starvation diets, low fat diets, low carb diets or any standard diet geared toward weight loss you should follow a diet specifically designed for fat loss instead. That will help you to melt the fat away from your belly and show off the flat stomach that has been hiding away underneath.
