Don't forget to Wash the Car, When You're Done Cleaning it on the Inside!

When you are selling your car online, a few good tips could help nail sales. So here are some pointers:

Cleaning Tips

- Clean up your car inside and out as best you can before you go to sell. But do not be a perfectionist, or you will never sell the thing.

- Start by grabbing a trash bag (or 12!) and toss, my friend: toss trash, empty CD cases, old ketchup packs, missing dirty, smelly socks...everything!

- As you go to toss the trash in your garbage can, wash hands then return with a tote of cleaning solutions (hot, soapy water, Windex and any type of strong, safe household cleaners like Scrubbing Bubbles or pine cleaner, etc), clean rags to use plus a sweeper.

- Sweep up all the crumbs, pieces of pretzel, cigarette butts and other junk. Get in between seats, on the floor, around consoles, in the trunk and any other places you can reach.

- Then tackle the cleaning with rags and cleaners, one area at a time, so you complete a thorough job.

- Snap digital photos to use in your promotions.

Selling Online

Head to eBay Motors for help, whether you decide to actually sell there or not. Here's what you can do there:

- Click on their eBay Motors Research page (this is not the same as the Marketing Research tools for the entire site). Enter your make and model, then review the auctions that come up for your search. You can check boxes on ones of interest, and the site will compare them for you in a click.

Hint:

To quickly get through large lists that may turn up in your search, click your Ctrl (button) + the letter "f" and a FIND box should pop up on your computer. Type in the year of your car, then click "find next" in the find box. It will search that page for you and you can place checkmarks in all the auctions for that year, then compare them in a click (push your "Home" button, then click the "Compare" button back up towards the top of the page.).

- Then check out fees involved in selling at eBay. If you are not comfortable with their auction instructions and fees, try Craigslist. At this point it's still free to list cars.

Review listings for other cars there, then sign up for a free account and write up your own listing and load it there. Seek help form their member forum as needed.
