Tips for Your Stair Treads
59When we’re living on a house or a building that covers more than a single floor, we get an “ascending device”: the staircase. And while we think that it’s the contractor or engineer’s job to make it perfect, it helps to inform you of the things that you need to know about stair treads and with this, you can spot imperfections better.
1. Equal lengths. Your stair treads should be of equal lengths, because the installation and the assembly of your railings will be affected if they’re not of equal lengths. Moreover, they will look like crooked teeth. And that’s something you won’t like, will you?
2. Equal heights. With unequal lengths, your staircase will look like crooked teeth, but with unequal heights, your staircase will just look like an earthquake disaster waiting to happen! Make sure your stair treads are of equal heights. Getting up and going down a staircase with unequal tread heights also get annoying after some time.
3. Appropriate heights. Match your stair tread heights with the people who are living inside your home/ building. If there are kids in your home or building, do not make them too high. This is just as important as making sure they are of equal heights.
4. Match the material with the other parts of the staircase. If you’re going for the contemporary look, you may use wood (the modern-looking kind), glass or crystal. If you’re more old-fashioned or classic, they have to look like 'family' with the balusters, the newel posts and the railings.
