Buying a New Car?

Save Money When Buying a New Car

It is human nature to want to get the best deal possible when buying a new car. Nobody likes getting ripped off so, here are some  tips on how to buy a car.

Car dealers are experts at getting you to buy a car at an unfair price.  They want to make as much commission as they can.  Following are some of the tricks they use to make you think you are getting a good deal when you are not.

Automobile dealers’ attitude toward the general public is to overcharge them.  They want to sell as many cars as they can with the highest profit margin while trying to keep their customers’ satisfaction rating high.

Our tips on how to buy a car before you step foot in a dealership.  First you should do some research and decide what you need and what you can afford to pay.  What kind of a down payment can you afford, if any.  Also, check into the financing that is available through your local bank or credit union.  The dealer will always offer to arrange financing for you, but the interest rates are always higher than what you can get on your own.  They will also try to discourage you from getting your own financing because they make money when they write a contract it's called a writing fee.

You also need to know what kind of car you want that will fit your needs and budget.  Do you want a two-door vehicle or four doors?  Do you want an automatic transmission or a standard shift?  What kind of options do you want, power locks, power windows, power steering, cruise control, air conditioning, an upgraded stereo, leather seats?  Don't get talked into extras you don't need.  You should know that options are installed on the cars even before they are put on the lot and they try to stick you with them, but the fact is you don't have to pay for them!

One of the most important tips on how to buy a car,  is not to fall in love with a particular make and model of a car.  This will make your desires over rule your good judgment and lessen your negotiating power.  You need to be relaxed, calm, and friendly.  Give the appearance of, either car will do, this may get the dealer to want you to have the car so bad they will give it to you at the price you want.

Look Closely for Damage

Here are a few things to watch for that dealers may do.

If a vehicle is damaged during transported from the manufacturer, and gets scratched it can still be sold as new because it has never been titled. Damage can be done to the body or engine and the dealer never has to disclose this to you before you purchase it as a new vehicle.

If the vehicle you took for a test drive is the one that you are going to purchase make sure you write down the VIN (vehicle identification number) and millage in case the vehicle is swapped with another one that looks identical to it when the dealer takes it to prep it for delivery. The car they try giving you may have more miles on it, or may have been sitting on the lot for a while. Or, it could be a vehicle that was damaged and repaired and they are trying to pass it off on an unaware customer.

Tips on how to buy a car if you are thinking about trading in your car. Do research to see how much your car is worth. A current Kelly's Blue book tells what their low end and high end values are. There are web sites that can also help you figure out what the value of your car is. The dealer will want to try and give you a ridiculously low price for the car. If you think they are giving you a good price, beware, they are making up for it somewhere else.
