Honestly??? No....
I'm sorry to break the bad news to all of you out there with soft (not brittle) but just plain soft nails. It has to do with your genes plain and simple.
I spent years trying to find the perfect vitamin, supplement, mineral, nail hardener, etc. You name it, I've tried it! Of course, I love jello...so believe me, there was no lack there.
I have soft nails by nature, yep, plain and simple, of ifs ands of buts about it! My nails are very healthy, pink, no white lines or bumps, ridges or discolouration that can tell you about something that is not quite right with your body. I am perfectly healthy, eat well, take supplements, etc., yet my nails are SOFT!! Nothing can be done about them, tried that, been there, done that! I've just learned to accept them for what they are..SOFT!
What is the most frustrating is that I take care of them, grow them and just when they are nice, no matter how careful I am, I always end up breaking one on opening the car door. I'll be relaxing at the end of the day and wham! I notice another one had broken off without my slightest knowledge! And, the real big bummer...my thumbnails always split on the side even though I take great care in filing them. So I end up having to cut them with the nail cutters so that they won't catch on something and rip away from my nail bed with meat on it leaving me in excruciating pain for a few days!
Yep..soft nails..if you can't beat them..accept them.

As a guy who works in the fitness and nutrition industry I'm just wondering what supplements/vitamins did you take? So far the only thing I've heard is using Folic Acid, which is in alot of pre-natal multivitamins. Now, all I've heard about Folic Acid is that is hleps with shine and strength of hair and nails. Have you tried that in particular? If not, I would recommend giving it a try. Seems like you've tried everything else!
I have found nail strengtheners work for myself and my clients quite well. You are absolutely correct though in your assessment of your genes predisposing you to having softer nails, but with vitamins and supplements you can certainly improve the current state of the situation. I always suggest that clients start taking a complete daily multivitamin if they are not already and also making sure to get enough fiber in their diets (most Americans don't get nearly enough).
If that doesn't give them the results they want, then we will put on some beautiful acrylics and start doing some really fun stuff with nail art like some of the pictures in this hub:

I agree NT, I take vitamins and supplements plus eat healthy all the time..still hasn't worked for me. I like the acrylics..but with all the artwork I do..I just eat my nails right down when grinding glass or making mosaics..and then working outside....lol!
