Vert skating
Vert skating is popularly known as ramp skating, this is not a trick that is invented in the recent times it has been around since 1980s. Whenever you envision the magnitude of this sport the only trick that comes to your mind is the vert skating. Many skaters have been in love with this trick, no pro skater is complete without mastering this trick. What is vert skating? It is all about catching big air and performing many technical stunts and tricks prior to the landing on the ground. It has got its name mainly due to the vertical skateboard ramps that skaters use while performing this trick.
The two major ones are
- Half pipes: large ramps with two inclines on both sides and a flat section in the middle.
- Quarter pipes: they are exact replicas like swimming pools made in wood, made for skateboarding purposes. A common easy to use example is the fresh park folding quarter pipe.
Vert skaters have been known to be the masters in performing the tricks such as these in the empty swimming pools in the back yard.

Mastering the trick
Follow this steps
- Know how to ride: Prior to doing vert you should know how to ride the skateboard, ride does not necessarily mean that you have to be a pro skater in the first go. Always remember a person starts at the beginner level and a well trained listener and skater may reach great heights and master any tricks with ease. Be comfortable in your body and see how you are able to balance it on the board.
- Wear protective gear: Wear a helmet; this should be one of the basic mandatory must haves every time you are out skateboarding. We cannot forget that there are potential dangers if proper precaution is not taken hence wearing a protective gear will help you.
- Check out the ramp: Be familiar with the ramp before dropping in. Get a feel for the surface and terrain.
- Find a comfort zone: When you're at the top of the ramp determine where it is going to land. It is always advisable to practice the trick in an area where they are not loads of fellow skateboarders. Slamming into them may ruin your chances of creating an image for yourself.
- Set your tail. Put the tail of your board on the metal edge along the top edge of the ramp. The back wheel of the deck is left hanging on the edge of the ramp. In the entire process your board is slightly angled up in the end.
- Muster courage: This is where you need to get brave. Take a deep breath and put your front foot over the front trucks of your skateboard. Stomp it down with all your weight until your front wheels hit the ramp. The first time you have to perform it is not going to be an easy job but you can do it. Believe in yourself and skateboard as if there were no tomorrow and you will end up surprising yourself and mastering the trick. The more you practice the better it is for you.
Have the ride, once you've dropped in, just bend your knees and ride it out. If you are confident and believe in yourself half your battle is won as once the mental stigma is gone then any trick can be performed with ease. However do not forget to wear all the protective gear at all times.
