Tips to buying school supplies

Shopping for your kids back-to-school items can sometimes be overwhelming, not to mention heavy on your wallet. You can save alot of money on school supplies by shopping at Target. Usually they start heavily stocking their school supplies mid-summer and the prices are fantastic. Last summer I purchased crayons for about 17 cents and glue for 20 cents! Pencils, pens, markers, glue, ruled paper, erasers, and glue sticks are usually priced the cheapest, mostly under 1 dollar. Please read the signs carefully though, one set of markers might be 88 cents but the ones next to them might be priced for 3 dollars. It depends on the brand & style. Also, the closer you get to the beginning of school the less variety there will be. Last year I purchased all of my kids school supplies for the whole year and we still have some left over.

  • Target is my #1 pick for back-to-school supplies
  • Look in your local advertisements for sales $ coupons (Rite-Aid, Target, etc.)
  • Start purchasing mid-summer, that way you can spread out the cost instead of having to pay while also shopping for school clothes, etc. (buy a little every time you visit the store)
  • Buy enough to last the whole year (you can't be 17 cents for crayons!)
