Tired of Cruel Diets? Here are 20 Steps to Lose Weight and stay Slim!

To those who strive to stay thin and slim and those who wish to be, here are some humble, simple and effortless 20 tips on how to do it recommended by specialists of course.
1- Have one glass of water prior every meal because water will curb your appetite which will make you eat less than normal.
2- Eat slowly and without distraction like TV for example. As many of us are well aware of the fact that the average person needs no more than 15 minutes to get moderately full. Thus, chatting or eating fast won’t help the brain to send the signal that your stomach is full!
3- Do not overload or oversize the food portion in your plate so you won’t be tempted to finish it! So, always use a small plate, and eat in the same place and of course, try to eat while sitting because not doing so will stretch your stomach and lead to a loose belly.
4- Always make sure to include salads in your afternoon meals. Being well known for their great benefits, veggies will help fill your stomach so you won’t feel the need to eat big chunks of fattening food. So, veggies are natural, non-fattening and nutritious replacements.
5- Avoid eating any meal after 7: pm... Eating early gives the body a chance to digest the food and turn it into energy while eating and sleeping, will turn the food into fat which will accumulate layers in time. However, if you felt hungry before bedtime, have a glass of skimmed milk and/ or veggies.
6- Before you go shopping, prepare a list of your needed items only and buy only what you need. This way, you will avoid buying everything you see specially unnecessary things like foods.
7- Do not eat between meals even if you feel hungry. As discussed earlier, veggies are the best substitute when hunger strikes you and if you couldn’t find veggies, have a glass or two of water. Our bodies are pliable if we train them, so train your body to eat in specific times.
8- Try and try again not to leave your house while hungry! This will definitely make you eat anything you see specially junk food which you should seriously avoid!
9- You can have skimmed milk or law fat yogurt anytime you want since they are not fattening and very healthy.
10- Now, people will think that diet means torture because we don’t get to eat what we like and that is not true! You can eat what you like but wisely. Eat small portions and try to minimize your cholesterol, carbs, and sweets intake.
11- Stay away from laxative medicines or what’s known as herbal tea or appetite medicines because as the names suggest, they are good stimulators of hunger and that’s the last thing we need here!
12- If you like and crave for sweets, eat them after your meals directly not long before not long after. Eating sweets after food will neutralize the effect and lessen the absorption of sugar.
13- Do not eat more than one egg daily (3-4 weekly). Have skimmed milk and yogurt everyday to provide your body with the necessary protein. It’s also important to eat fish at least twice a week instead of meat because it helps burn calories.
14- Focus on grilled or boiled food and use all kinds of spices, fresh mint, fresh pepper, parsley, garlic…etc in your meals. You should also add one big spoonful of olive oil to your meals everyday.
15- Avoid too much rice, white bread, chocolate, tatoes and deep-fried food. These things will increase your weight dramatically before you know it!
16- Teaming up! Get a friend of yours or a neighbor and convince them to start a systematic diet with you. This will encourage both of you and make you feel that you’re not alone. You can also exchange tips, recipes and various daily information.
17- Don’t attempt to calculate how many calories or how much carbs does this or that contain because you’re the only one who can control your mind and your healthy choices not the other way around. Focus on healthy non-fattening food and ignore the “Nutrition Facts”.
18- The most important thing, don’t weigh yourself everyday or whenever you see a weighing scale because this is not good for yourself-confidence since the results will not appear overnight! It’s enough to check your weight progress every ten days using your personal scale only.
19- For sure, simple and continuous work out like jogging, walking or doing mere home chores are efficient ways to lose weight and is in a way better than signing up in a gym to get bored and quit later.
20- Remember, the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step so do not try too hard or wish for the impossible like losing ten kilos in a week! Be patient and make your target simple and rational enough. Just don’t lose hope!

I take advice 18.. I rarely weigh myself.. i always think I'm less than 50 kg.. the less i know the better.. LOL! I follow advice #1 especially when I just woke up.. but never advice #5.. can't help it :-(

I try to abide by these rules and my worst failure is the drinking plenty of water. I am a real coffee junky and am more prone to this than anything. I am on a strict diet at the moment and keep telling myself after a certain time that I will be double the size in the morning if I eat now. It appears to be working but I am not losing as much as I would wish so some of your other suggestions may come in handy.

Coffee is bad for the health if you drink more than twice a day! It makes you drink less water. Anyway, I've said that patience is the only way to lose weight plus monitoring your food type everyday. To me, you look ok and I think it's just a girly thingy since all girls feel fat while they are not! Good luck Helen and thanks.

Good advice and for good health...not simply weight loss. Never heard the one about eating while sitting as opposed to standing as to the effect of increasing belly fat. From where does that advice stem? Fortunately we rarely stand while eating. So it would not apply to us anyway...but just curious.
Hi Peggy, glad you dropped by. Eating or drinking while standing contributes a lot! It helps stretch the stomach because in this way, the food or drink will be falling and will cause dilation in the tissues... So, it's better to eat while sitting. Good thing you eat this way..
Interesting! I eat 6 to 7 times a day, usually very small meals, I have a hard time keeping weight on. I can't remember the last time I had a full meal. Thank you for the info.

In your 20 steps to lose weight and stay slim, you offer very useful and healthy tips. You make the tips simple and with just enough explanation to back up the rationale of making that choice daily. You also provide so many nutritious and tasty alternatives so people don't feel like they're depriving themselves all the time. I think tip #18 is important -- not to weigh yourself every day, but maybe every 10 days. Losing weight is a process that is not evident overnight, so why put yourself through the anxiety of not seeing results each day. Thanks for sharing!
Weight Pills, wow, thanks for your illustration! I support your statement very much. Losing weight should be fun and not torture as some people might think. I had the ugliest belly in the world. It was really so ugly like a hump in front of me. But following those steps, I have now nice abs :) and toned body... Just don't give up.

I've used a couple of these myself, including the glass of water tip and the non-carb tip as well--I put myself on an Atkins diet, eating only proteins which really did work, as I ate mainly cold-cuts, believe it or not...I'd recommend however, watching your sodium content when doing so.
