Hitachi today confirmed the release of his first hard disk formatted 3.5-inch coupler 2TB capacity and speed of 7200 revolutions per minute. Officially launched under the reference DS7K2000 or Deskstar 7K2000, it takes a SATA II interface to 3 Gb / s and has 32 MB of cache. According to Hitachi, it would achieve a speed of transfer peak of around 170 Mb / s and provide a means of access time of about 8.2 ms.

2TB hard drive made by Samsung and Western Digital had rotational speeds of 5400 or 5900 revolutions per minute, as well as trays of Hitachi 500 GB, the Deskstar 7K2000 embarque five plates, which could result in noise and a power consumption slightly higher. Remains to be seen whether the performance gain induced by the transition to 7200 revolutions per minute justify these negative points, coupled with a target price of 240 dollars for the United States.

Hitachi stated that it updated its range Deskstar 7K1000, the model loads 1TB now two 500 GB platters for speed unchanged at 7200 revolutions per minute. The performance would be improved compared to the previous generation, with a peak speed of 198 Mb / s, while the power consumption is reduced to 4.4 W in idle mode. Why not trying to Insert four 500 GB platters in model 2To ?
