My wife & I are attending a Dave Ramsey financial planning class through our church, and a statement he made during one of the sessions stuck out for me: He said "To die without a will is just plain rude." He went on to say that the most important part of your financial planning should be to have a will.

Not to have a will means that you, or your heirs, don't get to decide how your finances will be distributed upon the unfortunate event of your death... The state will decide that for you, and that decision process can take months, or even years. You might think "Well big deal - I'll be gone anyway", but once you see what someone who has lost a loved one has to deal with, you'll want to make that process as easy as possible for your loved one in the event of the unforseen happening.

Assuming you own a home or have any assets whatsoever, one of the most important things you can do to ensure that your loved ones are saved from huge hassles of dealing with state assigned probate attorneys - is to get a will.

My wife is an Attorney in Castle Rock Colorado, so I get those kinds of details beaten into my head daily, but I just thought I'd take a quick moment to share.

Just sayin'
