The awful truth? You NEVER get over losing someone you love.

Sure, the pain will dull, if you're lucky. But there will be times, quite often times, when you wake up and relive the pain as if it was only yesterday.

You can, however, choose to deal. That's it. Just DEAL. It happened, you can't change it, you can't take it back. It's done. But you can learn from it. Realize that the person was in your life, however briefly, for a reason. You might not know the reason, but there is always a reason. When someone touches us, if only for a moment, it matters. It makes a difference. If you loved them, it matters most of all. The change isn't always evident. The pain might come and go. If you really loved them, the pain never fades. But you learn to change the good into the bad. Slowly. The anger and resentment, the heartache and the sadness begins to turn into fond memories.

You miss them. Constantly. As years pass, you smile when you think of them instead of crying. You learn to keep the memory in your heart and keep living in the now. It's all you can do.

Some advice...talk to someone. Someone who knows what it's like to lose a loved one. Others won't be able to fully understand. No matter how hard they try, it's not a feeling you can pretend. They have to feel it too. They know, and they can help. And they do help. But ultimately, the healing starts within. Don't dwell. Grieve and look forward to the future. Someday, it will get better. When it does...help others.

It's hard...but it will get better with time.
