A reuse of content chalenge

I accepted the 100 Hubs in thirty days challenge and last night I wrote a Hub on content reuse. I mentioned there that today I would write one new piece of original content and see how many different ways I could reuse it.

Here I want to take you step by step behind the scenes and show you how my thinking goes. This is like a making of movie. When you do this to a major project you can have another product which you can sell or give away as an ethical bribe.

In fact I reused the above article this morning on my Webpromotools blog. The way I did this was through a total rewrite. I did not look at the Hub but remembered the meaning of the content. This is the best way to do a rewrite but at times you do not have the time and you may start with the document and re-edit it to change it enough and give it a different style or angle for another market.

Step one: select your topic

Here for a brand new topic where yiu already know you want to maximize reuse, it is best to write about something you know quite well so you do not need to do huge amount of research.

So I selected meditation.

I put int meditation in the free Wordtracker question tool I mentioned earlier and got one good question to answer:

  • how to practice transcendental meditation?

Other potential useful titles to write about include:

  • What is the difference between mantra mediation and transcendental meditation?
  • What is the Maharishi Effect?
  • Maharishi effect - real or hype?
  • What is the difference between meditation and hypnosis (this comes from a hypnosis FAQ I wrote many years ago).
  • what is meditation?
  • where did meditation originate?
  • meditation how to?
  • how to do transcendental meditation?
  • transendental meditation (I noticed that this typo gets about thirty searches a day but has not a huge number of pages answering to it).
  • history of meditation.
  • guided imagery meditation.

I got some of the above from the Wortracker tool I mentioned in the Hub about how to get ideas for writing. Others I cam up with just because I have some knowledge about or I have written about. And yet others I got fro a keyword tool I have which I'll give away as soon as I have setup my resell/give away rights.

As I do my research no doubt I'll come up with more ideas for article titles. However, given that I already have brain stormed (with myself) a few article ideas I will have better mind concentration in the next phase which is the research phase.

Research

Often if I'm going to write a single article I do not plan to reuse (like this one - although remember you may reuse any content you have written at a later date) I just work in the application (HubPages, Squidoo, Wordpress, other blogging software, Dreamweaver, even note pad for very short HTML articles). When doing a fresh article for rewrite I suggest using Word or any other word processing software with a good spell checker.

I do my research typically on Internet. Also if it is a topic I know I have written about before I do a search on my hard drive. In this case I know I have written a few parts of papers which may mention meditation for my doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy so I'll start a search in my hypnotherapy folder as well as looking up some information on Internet.

I'll transfer the information in my information file on Word.

The writing itself

I'll write about the writing later after I have done it.
