Tomatoes are native to Central, South, and Southern North America from Mexico to Peru. They are perennial, often grown outdoors in temperate mediterranian climates as an annual, typically reaching to 1-3 m High, with a weak, woody vine-like stem, they are grown in colder climates worldwide inside Greenhouses and cold frames.

Tomatoes are considered to be vegetables but are in fact a savoury fruit.

Mediteranian cooking would be unrecognisable without the Tomato as they form the basis of many Soups, Pizzas and Sauces from this area.
