Tomato Avocado Salad - Ingredients

For this recipe, we need very few ingredients. That's one of the nice things about it. There are lots of great recipes that require very few ingredients.

It makes it easy to have the ingredients on-hand and in the kitchen in a pinch.

The simplier a recipe is, the more likely you are to make it, after all. This recipe is simple, nutritious, and fun to make.

Serve it at a dinner party and you'll impress your friends or guests with this recipes simplicity, yet bold taste.

Summer Salad For Hot Nights

If you're looking for a light summer salad, look no further. Avocado and tomato are two of the summers most bountiful and greatest treasures.

Easy to prepare and nutritious, avocado and tomato are kissing cousins and go great together like two peas in a pot!

First cut the avocado in half lengthwise. This is the easiest way to manage cutting the avocado in my opinion. It's also the least messy way I know of besided having a handy gadget from Bed Bath & Beyond :).

You will be cuting the avocado into small cubes.

You will first need to remove the large seed from the avocado.

Cut the avocado lengthwise and width wise.

Scoop out the "meat" of the avocado and place it in a bowl.

Get as close as you can to the skin of the avocado without breaking it.

You will need ripe tomatoes. A ripe tomato should be a deep red to red orange and soft to the touch.

Next wash 1-2 tomatoes. You will be dicing them for this recipe.

Cut the top of the tomato in one direction. Then cut it again in the opposite direction

Mix the avocado and tomato together gently. Not much stirring is needed at this point.

Depending on your serving size, you may want to add additional avocado or tomato. Experiment and balance the taste to your liking. You may want more avocado, less tomato, or vice versa.

The Secret Ingredients

The secret ingredients to this recipe is the garnish.

We will add the following to kick start our already tasty salad:

  1. salt
  2. cayenne pepper
  3. cilantro
  4. lemon juice
  5. garlic powder

First wash the cilantro. You can either pick the cilantro leaves from the stems or you may choose to use both the stems and leaves. I like both, but you are free to experiment. The more the merrier I say.

If you choose to use both the stems and leaves, chop the cilantro using a cutting board.

If you elect to use just the leaves, you can also cut them if you like smaller pieces or simple add the leaves to your salad.

There's nothing better than lemon juice I say. Thank Mother Nature for lemons!!! Lemons have so many uses, it's hard to imagine a world without them.

They are astringent in nature. Good for cleaning. Good for cleansing the body. Good for adding zest and a kick to recipes. Great for desserts. I LOVE LEMONS. I hope you do too!.

For this recipe cut the lemon in half. Remove the seeds while you squeeze half a lemon or remove them beforehand.

Add your spices, lemon juice, and cilantro. Be generous, but don't get carried away.

Stir your salad, but not too much. You don't want to end up with guacomole!! At least not for this recipe :)

And there you have it. Viola'!!! You have a beautiful avocado tomato salad full of color and bold flavor. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Enjoy with crackers, couscous, or other light grains, pita bread or tortillas, and even tortilla chips and salsa.

This is a very good anti-oxidant salad with the tomato and lemon mix. With saturated fat in the mix (avocado). According to a post I read, Tomatoes makes good anti-bacterial material. The source could be found here :
