Avoid Wearing Too Much Perfume and Cologne
66I'm sure you know what I mean when I
say that it's relatively easy to wear too much perfume and cologne.
When it comes to fragrances, the age-old adage less is more certainly
applies. There seems to be a universal trait among humans to dislike
people that wear way too much of a certain scent. While we may
forgive someone for having strong body odor on a rare occasion, we
will almost never forgive someone who doesn't use the right amount of
perfume or cologne. Whether it's Creed cologne, or discount perfume
for women, the hate is spread about equally. Thus, it is really quite beneficial to your social standing and overall reputation to make sure that you don't wear too much perfume or too much cologne.
Why, you may ask, does everyone have such a vendetta against these people? It gives the impression that the person has two major traits that we all tend to dislike: social ignorance and overindulgence. We wonder how the person can't tell why people are maintaining a ten foot radius around him or her, or how they thought that slathering on a rich fragrance would make them seem more appealing. Quite literally, wearing too much cologne or perfume reeks of desperation or arrogance.
Of course, we rarely try to look at the situation from the other person's perspective while we're busy asking why they can't look at it through ours. There are a number of reasons for why a person might wear too much perfume or too much cologne, and it would be beneficial to keep these reasons in mind.
For instance, we become used to smells rather easily. If a person wasn't properly taught how to apply perfume or cologne, they might make a rather elementary mistake of thinking that their sense of smell is the same as everyone else. You can compare this to the way we hear our own voice. What we hear is actually distorted by the vibrations in our throat and mouth that only we can feel/hear. Everyone's perception is different. Further, there are certain genetic and physiological reasons for why a person might not be able to tell that they are wearing too much of a fragrance. There is a wide range of diseases and disorders that affect how we register smell. Once more, everyone's perception of something can be highly distorted.
With this in mind, it is best to talk
to a person who is wearing too much of something, or ask another
person if you think that you are. Don't let one of humanity's
greatest accessories be a detriment to you or someone else's social
life. Whatever you do don't be afraid to wear or buy perfume and cologne.
