Top 10 Best Superbowl Commercials of All Time
64Superbowl Commercials
Superbowl commercials are undoubtedly one of biggest attractions to the superbowl. I know Im not that into football, but the commercials have always been especially funny and unique.
Here are the top 10 superbowl commercials of all time, exemplifying the wit and hilarity we expect in a great superbowl ad.
Frogs (Budweiser) 1995
Ths commercial combined wit, a catchy phrase, irrational fun, and cute frogs.
Budweiser really needed to reel in more of the younger demographic, and this commercial really set them on the map that they can appeal to the younger generation too.
The commercial is about 3 frogs who are outside of a bar, on a log croaking one after another "Bud..Wei..Ser"
Monks (Xerox) 1977
The irony, and wit in this commercial is unabashed, and clear. Monks are seen as holders of God's patience, and wisdom. They live a life free of electronics, and prefer an archaic way of living.
So it was hilarious to see Brother Dominic, fed up with mundane copying drop his quill and submit to Xerox's 9200 efficient two pages per second.
Exploding Mosquito (Tabasco) 1998
When you think of Tabasco, it's hot, and violent. So in a fantasy world, what would a hardcore tabasco eater's blood constitute of. Would the clueless mosquito be able to handle the hotness?!
Obviously not. In this funny, and bluntly violent commercial the mosquito tries extracting the tabasco eater's blood, and explodes from the heat. It was simple, but effective.
Cat Herding (Electronic Data Systems) 2000
Bonanza is a classic show that brings back the warm values of the past. Electronic Data Systems used this as a platform in their commercial about a bonanza-like family who cat herds.
The special effects added a nice sheen to the commercials, as well as the cute message.
Showdown (McDonalds) 1993
How important is a big mac to Michael Jordan and Larry Bird? Obviously its very important. Competing for a big mac and fries, Micheal and Bird compete in a exciting hoop shooting contest.
The combination of two huge stars, and America's guilty pleasure (McDonalds), it made for a winning commercial.
Growing Up (Monster.com) 1999
Combining little kids, with preposterously precocious sayings you would hear from a 30 year old, and you get a hilarious commercial.
When I first saw this commercial, it reminded me of the cute precocious things little kids would say, thought not understand. In this commercial, these kids seemed so earnest, adding to the hilarity.
Terry Tate (Reebok) 2003
Considered the best superbowl add in the 5 years before it aired, it combined a celebrity, and a funny assignment. A CEO recruits Terry Tate as a linebacker to destroy office like drones. The action, as well as memorable phrases really convey the message, and raised Reebok's popularity
Monkey (ETrade) 2000
The simple but hilarious commercial involving two dumb guys, and a monkey clapping along to cha-cha music was always such a memorable one to me. It ended with the tagline, "Well we just wasted 2 million bucks. What are you doing with your money?"
The add successfully conveyed the humble, deprecating dot-com company, and made fun of the cost of a superbowl ad.
Mean Joe Greene (Coke) 1979
An innocent sweet little kid offering "Mean Joe" Greene a Coca-Cola, makes for a positive touching message. After being offered the coke, Greene shows some love by throwing his jersey at the kid as a sign of thanks.
A really touching commercial, which gained Coke a sentimental value, and more popularity.
1984 (Apple)1984
This commercial had apple, represented as a jogger, throwing a sledgehammer into a monolithic IBM resembling Big Brother image. There was much hype to this commercial before it was even aired due to it's affilitiation with Blade's director, and it did not dissapoint.
The movie also allusions to the George Orwell book "1984", which I found an ingenious platform for Apple products.
